What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (89 Viewers)

we had high winds today and when I opened my door the wind flung the door open with a lot of force and damaged the "retainer" or whatever that part is called the keeps the door open. I haven't pulled it apart to look at it yet but it makes all kinds of bad noises when opening and closing the door now.

Anyone know what that part is called or have a part number? I'll need to replace mine for sure.

I replaced my door last night. The only parts I had to remove and remount were the door check and the internal door panel, so it was a pretty simple job. My main tools were a ratchet, two sockets, and a couple of screwdrivers. Oh, I also splurged and bought a interior trim tab puller tool (not sure that a flat-head screwdriver couldn't do the same job). The job can be done by one person, but another pair of hands would certainly help with the actual removal and install of the door.

Bosch Icon blades at AutoZone. I'm guessing they have them elsewhere too. I bought them because they are really flexible and I've had horrible issues trying to find wipers that stay in contact with the windshield. These do an excellent job. I have them on my Camry Hybrid as well. They aren't cheap but they work well. Only had them about a month so can't speak to their durability.

Does just the bottom pan have to come off to get the timing cover off?

From what I understand, either the head or the whole aluminum pan has to be removed to pull the timing cover.

The timing cover is bolted to both the head and pan above and below.

Last year we rebuilt just the head. Then the timing chain and sprockets went and I gave it to s shop to handle. They left the good head in place, but had to jack up the engine to pull the pan to be able to pull the timing cover.

back on subject: not the weekend but was forced to sleep in my truck because of an unexpected guest! it is 42 degrees here!

Bought an 87 4 runner to take the extra wear and tear off my other vehicles

finally got five 255/85/16 mounted and had the guys throw in the 5oz packets of CounterAct balancing system, in each tire; made and developed in Southern Ontario. @landtoy80 I'll report, that the balancing is working amazing; it's even removed some of my intermittent brake wobble, from worn birfields (is why i think they wobble). reports show it saves trucking rigs 5% on fuel use too.

compared with my old 265/75/16's i feel more torque, (i think this size should be the stock size) better steering feel, and the road noise is totally pleasant! - i'll report about any mileage gains, but too early for that.
best part: 5 tires for $350 CAD, mounted for $110, and balanced for $50, so a great chance to try out what some have called the best tires size for the 80 and around $100 bucks/ per tire .
