Nice! Which ARB rack do you have? How tall is it from the bottom of the gutter? If you don’t mind measuring for me? I’m rack shopping and am limited on height by my garage.

ARB STEEL ROOF RACK BASKET TOURING STYLE 87" X 49"

I absolutely love it, its got the basket front for the looks, and the back part is flat so I can still pop open my roof tent. I'm not currently home so I can't measure for you, but the rack height is actually adjustable, and from what I remember when I was installing it, it could go pretty damn low to the roof, I believe at the lowest setting it looked like there was just an inch of space between the top of the roof and the racks tubing.

Also just a PSA for anyone replacing their U-joints on their 60 driveshaft. Buy Precision brand from O'reilly's, don't use the SKS brand from NAPA. I had one precision and one SKS, the precision I was able to get the cups into place in 30 seconds with brass hammer. The SKS ones seem to not be machined exactly to spec, and I had to use a breaker bar on a vice to get them moving once I had them aligned, then bent the breaker bar because the vice couldn't get them any further in. Then I ended up using a round hardened steel cannister and a sledgehammer and it took 30 minutes of "controlled and aimed" bashing to get them in. Seems the SKS ones were just a micrometer too wide in circumference or something, because I tried the same side of the driveshaft with the Precision one before and it slid right in. Also the precision ones are nice because if you manage to lose a singular needle bearing like I did, you can re pack it with a needle from the old cups since they are the same size.

Working on the front springs…a weird issue where the axle seems to be sitting too far back.

Old and new springs appear to measure the same. Old ones are both marked “+ F-60170-A” and new ones are marked F-60171-B with a — on DS and circle on PS.

But the axle centreline is no longer aligned with the bump stop by about 2”

What’s going on here?

Seems bass-ackwards. What springs are they?

They’re Toyota as far as I know. Part number 60171 references to an 85-87 spring, and the markings and details look OE. Are the spring to frame connections in different spots pre and post 85?

I don’t believe so. However, I know that the older vehicles had three rivets for the spring hangers and the later models have four. So, there could be some mild differences in location... I’m just not certain. I had to replace one of mine a while back. I sourced a part from an older truck and it didn’t fit the hole pattern. I also suspected them to sit a little further out than the stock hanger but could never verify that for sure as I never welded it up.

I need some help boys.
I installed new carpet in the 60 today. To make that easier I removed the shifter. It came out easy enough. I covered the hole so nothing would fall in. A few hours later after putting in the carpet, I replace the shifter easily.

Now I can't shift. It's in gear and it will move but I can't change gears.

What'd I do wrong?

4 speed? Are you sure it’s seated properly?

I removed and replaced again. I'll take another look but I think there was just one way to do it.

I had the same problem when I did mine. The linkage was not in the correct spot when I out the shifter back in…make sure it’s proper. There is a thread with pictures on here somewhere.

Those look amazing. Where did you get the gaskets?
Everything is old and used parts. Housings got a clean up. Then yellow zinc and for the last new paint on reflectors. Also the sheet metal pieces on back up light are newly zinc plated. Gaskets are used ones that I scrubbed with a toothbrush. I made new foam gaskets that comes against the body from some self adhesive 3mm epdm foam rubber sheet.

I've remove and replaced a dozen times. It feels like it only has one way to insert.
Below is a pic of what I can see.
Do you guys see anything wrong?

yes, I'm pretty sure the shaft in the center, from top to bottom, has to move to the right to get the square grove to align so the pin from top looks like it would slide down to bottom..if this makes sense?

Thanks.
Had to push the barrel cylinder thing in then the shifter was able to sit right. Thanks for the help.
