Let the 60 rest for the weekend to prepare it for a 2000mile trip out west starting Monday.

Early jump on the weekend. Need some packaging material for the FJ60 lift gate that's heading to South Carolina this afternoon, so unwrapped all the recently powder coated Warn winch bumper parts (thanks @89BIGBLUE and Absolute Powder Coaters ) and installed them. I bought the bumper originally in Santa Fe back in '86, the same year this FJ60 was built, and it was on my new '84 FJ60 for many years even though I never bought a winch for it. I picked up a used, like new 8274-50 here on MUD a few years ago, so it goes on next, before Solid Axle Summit #3 in August. I think the style of bumper and the color of the FJ60 will look familiar to @roma042987.

Winch installed, wired up, and tested:

Virtually no clearance between the winch and the grille, had to loosen the hose clamps that attach the solenoid box to the motor so I could rotate them upwards a bit so they're not touching the grille.

That would look right at home in northern New Mexico. After all, Santa Fe is the Land Cruiser wagon capital of the world and Espanola is the low rider capital of the world.

Designed and machined a first draft prototype for a CB antenna/dune flag mount. Need to make a few adjustments for the next revision, but its almost there.

Let Rootbeer see its first sunshine in more than a year. Gave the boys their first experience driving a diesel 60. Sh!t grins all the way. Stopped by Bucees. The Mecca for beef jerky and the cleanest urinals anywhere on I-30.

And now for some 60-Series content. From what I understand, the muffler shop that customized the exhaust on my '86 FJ60 last year (3FE exhaust manifolds into a single catalytic converter FJ60/FJ62 exhaust system) also builds the exhaust systems for most of the lowriders in Espanola and the Upper Rio Grande Valley. I plan to have them build the exhaust system on my '71 FJ40 later this year.

Not the weekend, but yesterday I made up a new storage system for the back of my 60. I didn’t want storage drawers as I have found they take up too much space, but wanted something a bit better than the plastic storage tub I have been using.
I had some left over 12mm marine ply from my boat floor, and left over carpet from my sub box, so I decided on a couple of boxes to make better use of the area along each side and over the wheel arches...

FWIW, I’m a tech for a living. I have nearly all Matco and Snap On stuff, the majority of it is made in China.

As soon as I lifted my truck, I killed a set of u joints. It had been at a certain position so long that when it changed angles, it died.
