Cibie oscar plus with true amber lens....Cibie stopped making them in the late 80's, there is a chemical thst was used in the lens that has been banned. so what's out there is it. you can still get then with a clear lens, either fog or driving. I have a "few" sets.....

I 1st used Cibie lights back in 1982 and have been in love with then since.

Warning . ...do not put the lens covers on and forget to turn off the lights....I cracked a lens, but it's still holding up, waiting for it to fall out one day and I will then use a spare lens ;)

Yellow or amber works well in fog, rain and snow.....but I like them because they are very visable....I consider them idiot avoidence lights ;) and they look cool to boot..

I might have to hunt for a set.... :)

Hit the bone yard a few days ago and grabbed some sets of 4Runner wiper arms. Toyota trucks of the same vintage, late 90s, have wiper arms identical to those of the 4Runner so if you're looking in the salvage and no 4Runners are available check out the trucks.

Picked up my fully rebuilt steering box from Red Head Steering Gears here in WA. Great shop and it took them all of 1.5 days to rebuild it. Now that is fast service!

Chase,

Looking forward to your review on their rebuild. I have several that I want to have rebuilt and offer on the store for exchange. I was going to rebuild them all myself, just no time anymore.

so am I, Readhead did my FJ40 PS box 12 years ago and zero issues.

red66toy - I checked them out. Total rebuild, so all seals, bearings and looks like even the ball bearings
are replaced. Can you tell how much this cost? I just rebuilt a totally trashed BJ70 box. Parts from half
way around the world and took too much time.

Yeah, I will definitely report back. Since the steering was so bad before, it should be a night and day difference. I am getting the corolla u-joint for the steering shaft from Onur and then I will have everything to put the steering back together. Hopefully no more sloppy steering!

You are correct, they do it all and replace anything that is out of spec. Definitely not just a reseal of the box. Total cost was about $550 + my local taxes and comes with a 1-year warranty.

Yeah, both you and Tor recommended Red Head Steering Gear so I have confidence that they do a great job. :)

I need my gear box rebuilt too, what was your total cost out the door? Thanks for sharing.

WOW!!! $550 all together with shipping or was that just for the rebuild? I need to have mine done, was planning on sending to West Texas Offroad as I think their service is only like $300. But it does sound like your place did a bit more work.

That was just for the rebuild, I dropped it off and picked it up in person. They are thankfully only 30 min from my house. I am not sure how much shipping would be, you would have to call them RedHead Steering Gears - Manual & Power Steering Gear Box. WTOF, to my understanding, just does a reseal on the box which is fine if that is all you need. Red Head Steering Gear does an actual rebuild, they have all the equipment and expertise to fit and resize new bearings, ball bearings and seals. Definitely not the cheapest option but you get back a totally worked over box that will hopefully last a looooong time to come.

It was about $550, my local taxes added another $30, yours may vary since they seemed to base it off of my zip-code.

I really won't have weekends, I just have time here and there, some weeks are more weekend than a sat/sun........

so, replaced the headlight washer check valve, $32, not a very hard fix but I was sure the 30 year old hose was going to tear, used some lube and small pick to work around the inside of old hose, then it started to turn and it popped right out. Works like a charm. Best way to get at it is to remove the headlight assembly and its right there.

new valve in place

also replaced the main dome light(they come with the bulb, lens and housing), I had issues with the door open part of it, so ordered a new one and put Rob's LED kit back in. Going to have my old Hi-Fi tech repair the old one(and other I have)

more dip sticks........yippy :)

Rebuild kit is about $30.... add in two control rings from toyota which are $12+ each (the ones in the kit stink)... Its not too tough a job. I did it and I only had a youtube to follow for reference. From the time I had it out Sat afternoon to sun or Mon the next week I had it in but that was because of time I had to wait for the two rings to come in and to finish with a 3.5yo curious about all the parts.

anychance you have a pix of the headlight washer spraying the lens?

I will but need my assistant to help.....she is doing Turkey Day stuff.......

but I forgot how fast they empty the tank.

got a spare valve for when the other side goes out......kinda speedy($35x2) for something with doubtful need, but the headlight washers were always one of those funny things I liked about 60's.

That is awesome you resealed it yourself! The rebuild kit you are referring to though is likely a reseal kit correct? My box needed more than a reseal due to sloppiness in the gears so I had it rebuilt to eliminate it. The work they do includes new bearings, ball bearings for the worm gear, sector shaft polishing/trueness testing and new seals. Personally, that work is way over my skill set and hence the high cost vs. the reseal.

Gotcha. Yeah i just did the seal kit and nothing more. From what I could see all looked good. Nothing super worn.
