RAD! So stoked you're ripping into your pig again! Watching anxiously... :)

right-on buddy. i know i have been letting it sit idle and i decided i really need to get back into it. i have to wait a couple weeks for the bender to get here, till then i am just cleaning up the cuts and getting it ready.

Started it today.

White Trash of the Elwood Chapter, TORC4x4.org, Cottonland Cruisers.

pighead and i took a drive up to conifer in the blue pig to pick up pig parts.

I re-learned what it's like to drive a Pig what does not have power steering...

while i dealt with the dreaded p.o. wiring on the 80, pighead adjusted the brakes on the blue pig

Is that a bird flying through the pic w/ the blue pig?

Whoa! That's a good eye Pablo! I didn't notice it at first. I thought it was another smashed squirrel sticker on the tailgate, but yeah, I think that's a starling dropping in.

I see a rotweiler too.

Tackled the manifold gasket. Also had two broken bolts to deal with.

The rear bolt was broken flush with the head. Not a lot of room to work in there but was able to weld a washer to the end. Then welded a nut and bolt to the washer to turn it out.Worked great!

The front bolt was sticking out but the stud extractor didn't do the trick so I welded a big nut on the end and it came out easy.

Found some issues with the manifold as well so I swapped it out with a spare from a '79 2F I tore apart a while back.

Happy to be driving a quieter Pig again.:D

Drove the pig from Lake Tahoe to Santa Cruz, then to San Fransisco for work. Stopped at pappy's farm along the way in Stockton and replaced the flywheel. Finally took care of that damg vibration at 2100 rpms.... yeah! Long drive in the pig though. Still have to drive it home from San Fransisco. does 70 real nice with the Ranger.

Odfj40,

That trick works good most of the time. I've used it plenty, over the years. Glad you got them out. Big job pulling everything off.

Sal,

How did you determine the flywheel was the problem. Could you see the problem, when you pulled it.

Ron

Thanks.

It went well and nothing else broke in the process.

Sounds cool! I do not know much about welding (as evidenced by the question I am about to ask), so do you have to be really careful to not weld your nuts to the block, but just the broken off bolt/stud?
