Up at the local ski hill today, some kind soul left me some kind-beers in my ratty Trasharoo. Not sure what I did to deserve them, but am enjoying them, free beer is so delicious.

Waiting on a radiator for the 77 so thought I'd knock a few smalls off the list while it's sitting. Some bulb R/R, fixed an annoying squeak/rattle coming from the drawers, replaced the AC Idle pulley/bracket/bolt I manage to mess up on the first start after rebuild. Check yer nuts. Then went to swap out the rear bump stops for the longer HD version. Boom. Snapped both bolts on the RHS. Then broke the extractor in one of the bolts. One beer 15 minute job turned into a four beer 2+ hour adventure.

Yesterday @hairy_apple built me a badass rear step that slides into the hitch receiver to make it easier to climb in and out of the troopy.

With the lifted suspension and the high and tight 4x4labs bumper it took some gymnastics to get out to pee in the middle of the night.

No more!

Got a pic? I use a China-Freight step/hitch extender plugged into my frame-mounted receiver hitch, so a bit lower than your 4xlabs bumper.

It's okay, but still a bit too high.
 
Replaced the bonded seal and 2 seal-housing o-rings for the RD01 (was surprised that spares were available for this old and superseded locker), diff carrier and pinion bearings and yoke seal.
Started cleaning and primering first out of 5 heavily used and new to me OEM steelies.
Overall a pretty good day.

That FSM page showing the acceptable patterns is certainly interesting. I was under the impression that the contact pattern depicted in the last figure (bottom right of page) was grounds for rejection. But I guess if the good book says it's acceptable then who am I to argue 😆
 
Finished the old man emu lift on the hzj73. I like the stance. Ready to recieve the arb bumper. Installed new grill and signal lamps. Question, signal lamps worked fine for about 3 minutes the cut out. Both blinker and accessory headlight cut out. First accessory, then blinker. I pulled bulb cover and they are a 24 volt. Anyone know what the problem is??? These are toyota parts from Japan

I was posting with minimal writing...sorry.
The acceptable patterns were taken from another R&P manufacturer (i think Nitro), and seems to be a little bit "liberal", which was th reason for use of it😉.
The FSM, seems to only have the "Japanese " acceptable pattern, which is best case aiming point for me...
And since this front diff has around 500+ kkm on it, I chose to return the pinion to its previous position (ie. Same shim) assuming it likes it that way.
Attached what I have from FSM.
Spindles were lightly touched on the lathe, just so not to tear the seals and every part that looked OK was left as is, including the brass axle bushings and axle seals etc.
Repacked with new grease and called it good.
I have used all the shop's manager patients by that time, having me running around his mechanics and using their tools (and asking questions), so the rear will wait for a different date.

When the dealer in Europe says there isn’t absolutely any mechanical problem with the cruiser he is selling to you …… don’t believe them there is always a reason why they are sold . Luckily it seems to be just a headgasket but while in there I will renew the complete cooling system for the next owner

Pulled the bulbs. Weird, they are 12v and the filaments were broken and sitting on the glass after they got 24v. Glad it's a simple problem. Now I just have to find a USA source for some 24v bulbs for both turn signal and marker lights.

Chance's indicators began to act erratically.

I checked for bad grounds, and found a stripped wire. The pervasive legacy of alarm installers. I repaired it, but the problem persisted. The combination switch is fine, and the rest of the wiring was untouched.

The flasher relay turned out to be faulty. It is part 81980-12070, which is discontinued.

Notice that it has four pins and a rubber cap. The pins had a substance that looked, and felt, like bulb grease. There is an adapter to plug the relay into the three-pin socket.

In old age, carbon builds up between the contact plates above the solenoid. As a result, they stick together and interrupt the circuit. A flush with contact cleaner helps a little, but not for long.

The replacement part is 81980-32010. It is shorter. It has three pins, unlike 81980-12070. It plugs right in.

I noticed that the OBD port in the newer model 70 Series is close to the relay block. There is not enough room for the older part to fit. I guess the size change is to make it fit without interfering with the OBD port.

There are two part numbers in this relay. I suppose the lower part number is from Denso, but I may be wrong.

The indicators are now working.

I wonder if there are solid state relays for this application, just like there are solid state voltage regulators for alternators.

As I continue to rob parts from a RHD to use in my LHD, I needed the lower front center console piece that works with the left hand parking brake. Dan Deery Toyota was surprisingly able to find me this NOS part, in appropriatly dusty packing, and ship it to me for less than 40 bucks!
