Still a stock 2F or since you're in Canada a 3B eh?
Yep, it has the 3B, and the PO put on a turbo. I think from the looks of it, he had plans but never completed. There is a strange quandary of really awful hack job work, and occasionally you would come across something that was done nicely.

If I would have to guess, I would say the nice work was professionally completed, while the rest.... 😒

Started the season today...

I wonder if there’s a significant “efficacy” difference between the scooped-hood and the new design?

it must be ..

the late bonnet with the hood scoop ad some great air entry to the IC ...

Kinda interesting how Toyota retained the top mount Intercooler on the V8 while doing away with the hood scoop. View attachment 3491879View attachment 3491880

I don't know this for certain, but I do vaguely recall reading a paper (general automotive, non-landcruiser related) years ago that questioned the value of hood scoops sighting something about possible low pressure zones at certain speeds and designs, or something like that. I do remember reading the conclusion was that scoops were only better than no ventilation and the reason they still commonly found on many vehicles was their cosmetic appeal.

Personally I don't subscribe to this but I do remember that it was an academic paper that showed some experimentation on the subject.

I think a scoop can function very well if it was part of a system that factors in all the relevant aerodynamic variables, something major automakers are very adapt at. But I don't know 🤔

I just know it looks cool. 😁

i would get pulled over immediately for this 😄
I'm afraid: Same here. But when switched off when driving should be Ok.
I actually do it for two events:
1. As a decoration to The Christmas Market here in our village and
2. For a christmas parade that is held by the farmers community and is very popular with families and children.
See here a video from the last years event. (me at 2:30)
Cheers Ralf

So, @Buckow what kind of pliers are these?

Getting ready to rebuild the front knuckles and wheel bearings on a HZJ73. Also going to do the full conversion to manual hubs from the e-hubs. Getting everything from Cruiser Outfitters. Still putting together everything I think i need. I found a bearing and seal driver kit on amazon

  • Bearing driver set includes 1pc driver and 9 different size collars/discs:39.5mm, 44.5mm, 50mm, 59mm, 63mm, 65mm, 72mm, 76mm and 81mm
Can anyone confirm these sizes will get me through the job. I am finding these are the ones people use for an 80 series rebuild, but can't find anything definitive on a 70 series, and I don't know for certain the 80 series has the same parts.

Thanks,

Sean

I spent some time researching bearing driver sizes for full float rear axle.
In the end I used a length of brass rod as a drift to remove old races and install new.
I used caution and a block of wood to install seals.

Just got back home from rebuilding our front left knuckle at a friends shop in Bellingham (@WandatheTroopy). Got all our parts from Cruiser Outfitters too. They were really helpful when we realized, only once we had the knuckle completely disassembled, that a PO had put an older HJ axle on our HZJ 75 (different size axle oil seal!). A phone call and a couple pics later and their techs had the right pieces for our wrong axle on the way to us, truly love those folks @cruiseroutfit !

Only specialized tools we used were a hub socket (also from Cruiser Outfitters), fish scale to measure preload. Did not use an SST and we also used a brass drift to remove the bearing races, and a mix of the old races and the drift to put in the new.
