We became a dealer for ActionTrax which is a US built recovery board company. Impressed with the quality and design(I had seen them at Overland Expo East last year). Great pricing too. There are standard ones and these upgraded ones that have metal 'teeth'.

Power washed the inside of the Troopy doors with my hot water pressure washer. The quality of work on this thing is 👎 but no rust. I keep telling myself no rust. Even the door strikers are worn out. Lol.

That hot pressure washer might be my favorite tool.....aside from my brake flaring tool. It cleans everything so completely, it's hard to believe. I can't wait to strip the rest of the truck and really give it a solid blast of hot water.

Was all ready for a HUGE order to arrive today from Partsouq but US Customs felt it necessary to rain on my parade and keep it for a bit. First one I've had held up in a very very long time.

Yeah it's weird. Hood arrived fine, multiple big-ish dollar boxes fine, then a small box of seat belts or something gets a customs bill.

Not bad.
Check out those rear lower quarters. Look behind the rear wheel. That's the dangerzone in Troopys

I can't find a trace of rust anywhere in the normal places where I have seen rust in these things. The bottom right corner of the windshield has a bubble but it's not near the gasket...it's closer to the fender. I'm thinking maybe some kind of bad prep before paint.....not sure how that area rusts but it seems a bit far from the channel where the windshield sits.

I spent some time today driving it around since it was quiet in the 'hood.....I can not get over how smooth that damn truck is. Some weird directional mud terrains, a loose rear pinion and who knows what else.....it's smoother than some of my new stuff. That 1FZ with the 5 speed is nice. Dare I say quick. Ha.

@TonyP still speaks the truth. My truck had no rust (well, a little up in one of the footwells, but pretty inconsequential) but the rear quarters are where I found that previous dents/bangs/warps had been "smoothed" out... with generous amounts of bondo. Sad part was that some of it hadn't even been mixed properly because it was still not set under the paint.

Anyway, you're not gonna make it a garage queen anyway. ;-) And you've got that 1FZ... sooooo jealous!

There wasn't any rust in my windshield area until I pulled back the weatherstrip and it looked chunky. Top corners and lowers (foot in each) are the areas of concern (sure you've seen my thread, those are the common areas in 70s). Not saying yours are like that. It's from an arid climate so you definitely might be ok. But all the 70 guys I've talked to or seen, it's the problem area with the lower rears.

Just for awareness. I know you'll do the right thing on it, Chris. Can't wait to see what you do with that thing. It'll be awesome. If you need a hand in two years when I retire, I'm free :D

Took the HDJ73 out for a spin on the back roads in TX . I grew up having 40’s around and from time to time I miss not having a 40 anymore but a 73 without top and doors comes pretty close 😉

Bought one through @joekatana (Thanks Joe!). Flew to Texas and drove it 1500 kms back to North Carolina, stopping only for fuel and a power nap. It drove great and never missed a beat. 1500 km, 3-4 big thumbs up, 2 teenage boys staring goggle eyed with mouths wide open, 1 girl smiling and waving franticly, and 10 million dead bugs (estimate). Man, that big, flat surface can collect bugs!

Big thanks to Joe, and the mud members that have offered advice and answered all my questions (@Willis, @60toyetero, @AndrewHadji, @c2dfj45, @umpqua and a few others I'm sure). And thanks to all the folks that document their amazing work; this is a great site for all the information it provides.

I removed enough vacuum piping and hose to reveal Max Fuel Screw. I backed the screw out about 270 degrees to counteract over-fueling and black smoke.
I dropped the "screw cap" and it effectively vanished...I'll have to make something to replace it.

Been there. There at least two 10mm sockets under my Tundra's intake manifold. They're gone forever.

Danger zone is right.

Learned a lot about why these guys rust out so bad.....the rear quarters of mine were filled with years of dirt and who knows what else. Some clips, paper, a bolt or 2. All kinds of junk. Loaded with silt about an inch or so thick. Wonder why Toyota didn't put a bottom drain on those quarters. We washed everything out the best we could....we'll bake it in the sun and then vacuum...then start the rust converter process so there are no issues in the future.

Cross channels were filled with silt too....even the door sills.

2 interesting things....

The rear seats had FOUR covers on them. Lol. We stripped them and kept the frames.

The HVAC panel is just a VAC panel....no H. No cutouts under the hood for the heater piping. The port on the head of the is capped off with a factory rubber cap.

Found the hidden captured seat nut on Troopy! Certainly will make swapping out the OEM bench a whole lot easier...
