no luck on the keyster kit with the jets. I ordered it from Sirius Consolidated out of Canada, but then a day later, they said it was out of stock. I contacted Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters, but they said their kit does not have the jets. Anyone get a Keyster kit recently that included jets? If so, where were you able to get it? I know I have to at least replace one of the main jets, but based on the condition of this thing, I think I would like to replace all if possible. Also, I'll post some progress pics of the dipping

Air horn looks pretty clean. Only took 3 days, taking it out multiple times, rinsing with water, scrubbing with different brushes, and re-dipping. Only concern is the bar opposite of the inlet/outlet. Looks corroded badly. Is that a concern or should I just roll with it?

Now the carb body is a different story. Granted it was only in there for a couple of hours, before I did a rinse and scrub. Is that rust in the bowl going to come out with carb dip? Do I need to completely get it out?

Also, found the missing pump inlet ball. It's still down there rusted and pretty well stuck. I tried compressed air and scraping around the edges of it, but it's seated solid. Any idea of how to get it out? If I can't get it out or if the rust is an issue, then this rebuild may get shelved until I find another suitable replacement.

That bowl is pretty rough. It might be easier, and for peace of mind, to use a better starter carb off ebay or the classifieds.

Something like this:

There are usually a bunch for sale on there that would make a good rebuild.

For what it's worth, I was able to dislodge my stuck inlet ball by grasping a sewing needle with forceps and working it around in there. I've heard though that if you reuse a stuck ball, it's likely to get stuck again.

where are you guys buying your rebuild kits that come with the secondary diaphragm and the power piston? also, any recommendations on where to get new jets?
Rockauto sells SMP kits that do come with a new secondary--unfortunately, you will not get the "g" clip for the accel ball. I got one from Toyota--only took 13 weeks to get this $3 part, but at least they had it.--Should have bought 50 of them when I had the chance--maybe Beno could help?
Also, this kit came with replacement ball checks-both inlet and outlet

Fwiw many Keyster kits do include jets, however the kit you were after does not. We are slowly working on getting photos and a parts listing for each of our carbs. If you know the jet #'s you are after we may be able to find a kit that has them.

So, after about another 2 days of dipping and scrubbing the carb bowl, it looks like a lost cause, since the pump inlet ball has found its final resting place and isn't leaving there anytime soon. Plus, the rust isn't much better and I'm not putting a rusty bowl into this rebuild.
The slow jets and the one of the main jets actually look salvageable after a few days of dipping. The slow jets look to be a 75 and 80. The mains appear to be a 136(good) and 171(mangled). From other threads that I have read, that seems good for sea level jetting. So, I just need to source a 171 (or close to it).
Pin_Head may have some spare bowl for me, so that could keep me going, just need to figure out what else I may need. I know the Pump Connecting Link is gone on both carbs I have, as well as the female threaded nuts that go on the fuel inlet/outlet nipples. Are they a special size? In addition, I need to sort out the linkage as I currently have a weber and the Aisan doesn't share the same type of throttle input- correct??

If you get that stuff on your hands, it can cause this too--Ha!

What year is this 40? I have a source for a carb from a 77(I think)--maybe $75 if I can get it. Didn't look that bad externally when I saw it about 8 months ago.

I checked my junk box and I don't have the arm that connects the accelerator pump arm to the throttle linkage. I have most of the other parts for an April 1978 carb, including the three main castings.

Thats great news! Thanks! I wondered if they were interchangeable. I'll use the jet, already swapped over inlet. The carb body being similar may be a huge help since the float may be in better shape as well. That should be the same as well, right?

Just need to source the compression fittings and the pump connecting link.

Also, anybody know if the power piston is able to be used from the later model. Mine cleaned up ok but doesn't look too good on the end.

Been reading up on the desmogging threads over the weekend since mine isn't the cleanest job and I'm adding back in the charcoal canister and fuel evaporator. Looks like I need to buy a bundle of vac lines as well.

Also my toyota gas tank and fuel pump came in today. Can't wait to start the switch. Any suggestions if I should have it redkoted before I install it, or should it be good for the next 15-30 years as is?

Just a few more nuts and bolts to dip and I can begin reassembly. My rebuild kit also arrived. Got the hygrade 791b kit.

When I tear the later carb apart on wed this week, I'll see how that one looks. If it's in sad shape too, you'll have some utz flying your way!

Do you have a picture or drawing of what this arm/linkage looks like? I have a '79 parts carb that still has some things on it, if I have one, bmorefj40 can have it for the ride cost.

I'll find a pic of the linkage and post it up

On a side note, the butterfly assembly came out better than I hoped. If you go back to post #25, you can see the before shot. Put it back in for one more dip just to dissolve anything I may have knocked loose while blowing out the passage ways.

Here's the after. Took some steel wool to fix up the minor pitting, but I put water in it and held the assemblies closed as well as the ports and it didn't leak so I think it's saved. What are you guys putting on the cast iron portion after soaking to keep it from rusting? Paint, clear, oil?
