Rebuilt fuel pump is installed and working great on my 3/68 FJ40. Many thanks to those of you on this forum for your great advice, especially

rainingagain!

I bought the rebuild kit for my Kyosan Denki OEM fuel pump from Cruiser Cult. All the parts were top quality and fit perfectly. My fuel pump has the replaceable valves, which were included in the kit. I found this video to be really helpful for a first timer like me.
  1. Remove and re-install the fuel pump from the top. Remove the battery. It gives you easy access to the fuel pump. I changed the filter element in the bulb-type fuel filter at the same time. The OEM filter element is still available from Toyota. Simple job and makes sense to do it at the same time.
  2. Reinstallation Hint: Once you install the new kit and rocker arm spring, it takes some force to compress the fuel pump by hand, which makes it difficult to get the mounting bolts properly aligned to the engine block and crankshaft. I used a bolt that was 3/4" longer than the correct bolts to get the fuel pump into position and that made it easy to get the other (correct length) bolt started and pulled the fuel pump into correct alignment. I removed the extra long bolt from the other side and easily installed the second mounting bolt. I used a thin coat of RTV Black on both sides of the gasket which made it much easier to keep the gasket in proper position and experienced no leaks or gas vapor fumes after my test drive.
