I have the typical squeaky steering wheel when it is cold out. It sounds like the horn contact dragging. Is there a easy way to grease this or am I destine to remove the steering wheel? Also I have a 94 so no airbags.

Omg! I would LOVE an answer to this question. Mine drives me crazy in the cold......for the past three years

Thanks.

Been a thread or two in the past with pics and description of where to apply the grease, the wheel has to come off IIRC.

I have had it on other cars. On other cars there is a spring loaded plunger that runs on a brass type disk. I think this needs a little grease. It would be great if I didn't have to pull the steering wheel. Then the next question. Any links on how to pull the steering wheel?

Search clock spring lube grease squeak

@rc51kid Pulling the wheel is easy without airbags. Look here starting at post #11 for my super-wordy explanation and some pics.
Thanks. So it sounds like I undo one screw from the bottom holding the center pad on. Pull it forwards me on the top edge for the two clips. Then do the horn wire removing the horn pad. Loosen the 19mm nut. Get the wheel free and then take the 19mm but off and the wheel. Not too bad.

just a few sprays of lubricant onto the back fixed mine right up... has been squeek free for a while now, i guess next winter time will tell..

didn't require any disassembly, did it when i replaced my rubber grommet, it is amazing what it does to the driving enjoyment :D

^ that's what I did and it's been quiet for the last 4 months.
Use the little skinny red straw so you can get it all over and that's it.

Where did you spray exactly?

Nice, I'm going to give that a shot on mine. Mine also squeaks on cold mornings.

Where did you spray exactly?

I had to use a mirror, but if you follow the steering shaft from the firewall penetration back up towards the steering wheel, you'll see a bushing/bearing up in there. I simply positioned a can of silicone spray with the nozzle pointing back up at that bushing and gave it a few shots. It's a little messy as it was difficult for me to aim with any sort of accuracy, but those few shots of silicone spray completely eliminated my squeak...

What kind of lube? Spray silicon?
i just used WD40 i had lying around...

i had originally tried liberal amounts of graphite powder, thinking it'd be longer lasting, but didn't work...

So I got a report back. Anyone with this problem and a non airbag truck should just pull the wheel. It was super easy and kind of fun to look inside. Just pulled it off and lubed it up with dielectric grease. Easy and now quiet!
