well I managed to wash my sequoia but it could use a good wax job....
 
Not really wrenching but I did spend 8 hours on the 4Runner today. Did a wash, then clay barred the whole car. Followed by a compound then a waxing. First time really digging in on a black car, and it needed it badly. To not be rusted out at all the paint was in terrible shape. Didn’t turn out to bad though.

Well today is the day, here shortly I’m driving to the random parking lot where it’s all gonna go down and I’m disassembling my entire axle.
 
Well turns out I am the bonehead of the year. I went to harbor freight and Dollar General and gathered my supplies, set up camp in the apartment complex parking lot and began. I got my PS wheel off and saw two pieces of gravel in between my rotor and dust shield. I pulled them out with some needle nose pliers, threw the tire back on, and NO NOISE!!!!!

It happens...did to me before too. Had one stuck in b/w the dust shield and caliper in my Chevy. Was rubbing on the inside of the rim. I could’ve sworn it was the caliper hitting so I ground down a section of the caliper to then still hear the noise. A second look on the other side of the rotor revealed the rock. Doh!
 
Lots and lots of fab work on the ‘new’ bumper. I’m guessing the 60 this was on was missing some of the factory bumper mounts rather than cut the rust free truck, I cut up the bumper. Also spent a couple of hours grinding welds. Who knew that a Central Pneumatic angle die grinder at $9.99 wouldn’t continue to work after about an hour of constant use? :) guess I shoulda got the $14 one

Fits nicely. TONS sturdier, less radiator blockage and wind resistance, and a spot for the winch I’m intent on winning at LR. :)

Nah, I love this car. Now that I've done it once, I could do it a second time twice as fast, especially now that I've pointed all the stupid clamps in accessible directions :rolleyes:

As for the mechanic, I haven't found one I trust to work on my cars. Last time I tried to have the oil changed in laura's jetta, they somehow broke a radiator outlet off, and ruined the shifter bushings, making the car undrivable. Of course, it wasn't "their fault", so I got to pay ~$700 to get my oil changed :mad:

Check out Bimmer Performance Center if you ever do come across a job you would rather pay a mechanic to do. They're about as good as it gets for BMW service around here.

I have not used them personally as I did all my own work my my multiple 330i and 335i cars. Tons of friends have used them though with nothing but good things to say.
 
So I’ve had my winch installed now for a couple of weeks, but haven’t even though about wiring it up. I have no clue what to do but I have heard people mention circuit breakers and stuff.

When I have used it in the past I have just connected it to a deep cycle. It has cable coming off the winch to an anderson connector, and then cable running to the deepcycle with a fuse. I blew the fuse so currently it has a pair of vise grips on the cable wrapped in electrical tape. I’ve read to not even use a fuse because of how many amps it draws.

Should I just attach the cable to my battery and then when I want to use it just plug up the anderson connector?

Y’all I have had an interesting 80 related failure. I was doing a quick run on dickie Bell last night at about 6, we had just got on the trail and it was still real easy. I heard a PS whine and figured I just needed to top off the resivoir because my slow leak came back. Well I looked and PS fluid was spraying everywhere. I got back to camp as fast as possible and let it cool down then assessed the situation. A low pressure return hose that goes form the PS cooler to the gearbox(I think, might be the pump, I forgot) was leaking badly. So I got a ride to the autozone in Richfield where I bought 3/8” Ps return hose. Well after fighting off the rock hard busted hose for an hour, I started trying to install the new hose. Well of course, this wasn’t gonna work. Originally the hose was slid a good 3-4” up the metal fittings then clamped. Well I was able to get them about 1/2” over the barbs in like an hour, threw a clamp on them. And prayed all the way back to clemson at 1am. It held but I need to get it better.

How do I get those hose on???? Can I stretch them or heat it or something?
 
Window in the truck on a sunny day, hot water, really really carefully with a lighter/blowtorch, KY/Vaseline/spit, wiggle back and forth on the hose with pliers
 
Add heat and elbow grease. I use hot water when needed but seems you could finally win after an hour.

Was the hose the actual failure?

Does it need 1/2” instead. Simple questions but makes a difference.
