After building and enjoying my first Troopy for the past two years, it was time to start another. I loved the ol 12HT/pop-top truck right down to the rusty fading paint but all at once I had about 4 people want to buy it so I decided to sell and start another. Coincidentally Lukas (@6070toyetero) had a truck down in Georgia he didn't need so I shipped it out to Oregon. A week later it arrived and I couldn't be more stoked. It's not built out, but is a perfect candidate for a complete conversion. It was previously babied, even has rust isolator anodes on every body panel. I cannot find a spec of rust on the whole thing.
While the truck did come from the factory as tan it was repainted at some point. Usually I'd be bummed but whoever did it really took the time to do it right. I cannot find a single overspray or masking line; the whole truck was disassembled and painted inside and out. Lots of old man mods - triple mudflaps, dog cage, wood framed drawers in the rear, chrome hitch cover, etc.

Currently it is a gas 3fe, about 9 seats, converted to propane at some point. The H55 and transfer case seem to be rebuild from looking at the seals - shifts awesome. Front hubs have recently been done too!

Major plans include a 1HDT swap. I've got the engine in the shop now resealing it and replacing auxiliary components. A 1HZ/HDT spline H55 is here as well but I'm still sourcing a few of the hard to find parts like flywheel and 300mm clutch disk. Alternator and starter will be fun to find too.

An Alucab Hercules top conversion should be here in about a month. Really looking forward to the build.

Here are photos of it in Georgia ala Lukas' iPhone 2

Here are a few from my phone after it arrived. I've started to strip it out. The truck came with two sets of seats, one in the front and one directly behind exactly the same. Spares are nice. Double rear foldout seats are nice to have as well.
I'm not a fan of flat black wheels or curved fender flares it came with. The steel wheels are at the powdercoaters, please excuse the rollers. Kangaroo bumper was immediately removed as well.

Parts rolling in today. Still waiting on wheels/tires.
Bumper showed up along with the first batch of parts for the 1HD-T

Scott at Eco was kind enough to remind me to do the Big End Bearings before installing the engine. I don't have much experience with this engine yet.

Thanks to cruiser outfitters for the fast delivery!

Stoked to see this build out!!

Looking good and you're gonna love the 1hdt. AND the pop top.

Hope to see it someday.

We're having a bit of a troopy meet up at the shop when the 6+ Alu-Cabs get delivered here in a month or so. You might call it a roof cutting party. Make a weekend trip to Bend?

Parts are starting to trickle in. Whenever the trucks show up they always have faded old lenses so I like to replace with new OEM.

A smash of the old was not necessary but I did it anyway.

Engine refreshing continuing. Had a hell of a time with the timing belt because unlike 99% of all engine's to set timing on this thing you set BDC not TDC so the belt marks were way off and I kept thinking I was a few teeth off. (have to fight to ignore the clearly marked TDC marks on the gears). Easy when you figure that out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Love to. Let me know the where/when.

All of this was done before the 1hdt went into my truck.

New water pump
Rebuild Turbo
New Timing Belt
New Tensioner
Rebuild Injectors
Replace Big End Bearings
Remove Cold Start

All PM stuff that you may or may not choose to do.

Meh....I guess I'll sub this thread. Should have kept the dog cage tho. hahaha

Water pump, timing belt and tensioner, all gaskets, glow plugs, etc are all replaced.
Bearings are on the way. I think I'll wait on the injectors though.

At least it was out of the cruiser so you had lots of room to play with it.

Got a few things done.
Took some glamour shots -

Falken Tire sent me some of their new MT01 to try out, and Fifteen52 got me a set of their new Analog wheels. I'm in love.
These come in 16x7.5 and 17x8 in two very good colors. So I switched to these instead of the steelies.

Replaced the bottom end bearings with new ACL bearings, thanks to Scott's recommendation. Got to the last bearing before I admitted it was a good thing I did the job.
