Wayne I wasn't sure about the chassis color choice but seeing it close to the white tub, I have changed my mind - it is different and very cool ! Congrats

Are you still working on this project? I figured it might be getting close to complete..

Simply remarkable build. Credit where due, amigo.

I agree. Truely excellent!!

i will still wrench on it when i have spare time.
the owner is taking a well deserved "personal time" to travel and enjoy life. the truck will be on hold till he gives the go ahead to continue it.

thanks for all the compliments though, greatly appreciated.

Hello All,
It may be obvious that this Troopie has to be as simple as possible. There are two items which could be considered fripperies, however, that i do want.
Cruise control was mentioned months ago; the other frippery i am keen on is intermittent wipers with variable intermittent speeds.
If any of you are aware of such, preferrably from another Toyota model, could you pass on the info please?
Thank you!

Cheers, 61Mk+

Cruise control was mentioned months ago

Greetings! I have researched the aftermarket Cruise Control space exhaustively. There is no 24V aftermarket Cruise.

I purchased, although have not yet installed, the Rostra brand Cruise Control. In addition to the base kit, I had to also get the Clutch pedal cut-off, as well as the VSS signal generator. It does not use vacuum... it's full electric powered, which I think is nicer than vacuum.

Install will be a bee-awtch... All of my signals need to be converted from 24V to 12V... i.e. the brake pedal, tachometer, and main power wires. The VSS generator does not 'bolt up' to the Toyota parts, but I've figured out a strategy to adapt them, although it will require the sacrifice of a speedo gear and speedo cable.

Total cost was a bit over CAD$500 for everything. I have not begun the install yet... it requires total dash tear-down and I am waiting until after the wheeling season to tear into that.

I am with you on the frippery of the Cruiser control.... you're on your own with the variable speed intermittent wipers!

so he is using it right now .?

I am just about to do this mod as I don't even have intermittent wipers at all (very frustrating in the foggy climate i live in). I'm not sure if you're in the same boat, or if you currently have one intermittent speed and want more. If you're the same as me and at least one intermittent speed will be better than none, as far as I could tell comparing my standard model to the models with intermittent wipers, the only part that differs in the whole system is the steering column switch, everything else appears the same. Below are the part numbers for diesel troopies I gathered when doing my research. The part number for LHD/RHD are the same.

From what I gathered, no 70 series came with more than one intermittent speed, and all I came up with for more speeds was a complete steering column change so I put that into the too hard basket.

HZJ78

84650 SWITCH ASSY, WINDSHIELD WIPER
84652‑69435 2 SPEED WIPER
84652‑69445 W/INTERMITTENT WIPER

HZJ75

84650 SWITCH ASSY, WINDSHIELD WIPER
84652‑69415 2 SPEED WIPER
84652‑69425 W/INTERMITTENT WIPER

HJ75

84650 SWITCH ASSY, WINDSHIELD WIPER
84652‑69415 2 SPEED WIPER
84652‑69425 W/INTERMITTENT WIPER

my pzj77 and my old lj78 have variable speed wipers, with a speed selector switch on the left stalk of the steering column.
from memory it has 5 different speed settings.

the idle speed control knob could serve as a cruise control of sorts... i wonder if that thing could be modified somehow

wow, that's encouraging, I hadn't looked into the lightweight 70s but i guess it makes sense being less commercial orientated. You mean with a couple of intermittent speeds right? do you reckon you tell me the year and market so i can get part numbers and see if they'll fit into the 75/78s?

I have intermittent wipers on my 77 that are fully adjustable.

My 75, dads 73 and his old 70 all have just the generic intermittent wipers

I've been looking into the 77s wiper parts but there are a couple of parts different in the steering column so can't be sure if a simple switch exchange will work without getting a visual on both and maybe installing and trying... do you feel like doing an experiment?, you're the only person I know with a 77 and 75! LOL if a simple exchange works it could have large consequences i reckon, how many people are out there with the frankly annoying 2 or 3 speed wipers.

the pzj77 is a heavy duty model! lol .

its is prado though, i think the prados are as luxury as the 70's get? elec windows, sunroof and so on.

im afraid i cant dig up any photos of the wiper stalk. theres a circular switch on the stalk that has the various settings on it.
i wonder if its this switch, or some relay hidden somewhere that controls the function.
the lj78 is 12 volt but my 77 is 24v so there is a 24 volt version available.
