Brian,
of course all the work booked would have to be finished before i left, i am looking forward to finishing your baby.
Daniel,
it was an offer (more of a joke) but, hey, if you can get your ducks in a row and if i can get my work finished up ... my wife retires Feb 2014 ... what a hell of a retirement gift THAT would be!! she loves to travel ...

cheers

Well who knows what could happen. I might be able to get the wife to agree to something like that in the future. ;) I guess I'll have to try to get a big house when we go down in Nov. to find and buy one in town. There are a MULTITUDE of LC's down there to choose from (new and old)! :D Maybe you could carry around one of our shotguns and double as a security guard. Lol!

we don't need much, a nice room with a view and our own toilet would be nice ...
humm, crime is a problem? that would be quite a change from where i live now!!

Crime isn't really a problem per-say but it's like opting to have a conceal and carry here in Texas... You may not "need" it, but best to have it just in case. From a legal stand point at least in Honduras and as I understand it you have to be a company owner and have a permit to carry. To drive the point home... the guns just communicate that I'm not playing around. ;)

Fun Fact: Each company owner is allowed to own up to 5 firearms.

Wayne,

Did you get all new rubbers for the doors/windows? And if so, from whom? I've shook down a few of the N.A. vendors and nobody can hook a brother up:meh:

Those rear door inserts look awesome. I can't wait un till mine are done. How much material did you have to remove from the spare tire brace to get the inserts to fit?

the rear tire supports need to be removed completely.
see the BJ70 build i am doing and you will see what i mean.

i beleive yours are completed and waiting for packaging. i MIGHT even get them out this week.

here you go:

Thanks crushers.....I'm floored at the quality of those storage boxes. I had to re read the build from page one to find out what material was used and the attention to detail is astonishing.

I don't suppose you'll be making those for sale once this build is finished? I could really use a set of rear door boxes for my 76 wagon.

Cheers

yes, i might be making more if there is enough interest.
doing them one at a time is very time consuming and very expensive.
contact me direct at:
waynesmith2501@hughes.net
and we can chat more.

the tire carrier internal stiffener bracket needs to be removed from the big door to allow the larger box. if you are doing a tire swingout rear bumper then this is not big deal. if you plan on keeping the spare mounted to the door then i would suggest NOT getting the box for the large rear door.

you can also check my BJ70 build for other rear door and side panel ideas ...

cheers and thanks for the compliment.

small update this evening or tomorrow.

i didn't get near the work done i wanted to. :bang:
we needed to reorganize the fab area to get the press out of the main shop which lead of course to much more work than originally anticipated.
the paint touch up guys showed up Wed evening and it still needs to be delived to the paint shop once all together to get the final "blow in" paint touch ups completed.
so the side panels get weather stripping before being mounted.
the inside is also held with 3/8" aluminum retainers, it would be interesting to see someone try and break into the back through them!!
it is really starting to look like a Paddy Wagon or an ambulance for Ireland. :hhmm:

Wayne nave you two sheets, an inner and an outer sheet (for insulation) for the rear windows, or a single sheet.

its so clean.

the owner is doing a 2-3yr trip from Calgary to Alaska then down the west coast to the tip of argentina and back up the east coast and across Canada ... all back roads and trails.
i am guessing an easy 40,000 km ...
he will be living out of the vehicle most of the time.

Nice! Damn good truck for that!

I hope he doesn't get some pita border official though. That would be a bitch to drop that water tank if they demanded it. It only rarely happens but once in awhile an overlander gets hassled by officials and they demand you do things like that before you can pass. Smugglers I suppose is what they are looking for.

there is a drain in the bottom, side and filler in the top. he can drain the tank and they can inspect easy enough.

if i was him i would have a sheet showing every storage box location in the vehicle for the customs to look at...

of course it would be prudent to keep the information hidden till customs was approached.

you know the way up here, should be next week we lower the body back onto the frame ...
as each step finishes up i get more excited ... and nervous ... to see the finished project.
