bring it on, buddy.
i will buy the beer for all and squash your revelution in one drunken festive occasion.

thanks for the compliment, it has been a treat to build this unit ... and ... a true challenge.

there are speakers facing down and ones facing back, since he is doing the trip mostly by himself he can fine tune the fader and the balance to what he likes.

he also has the option to add an additional speakers in the door and in the rear upper console to give the full bodied sound.

we did try the system installed, but sitting still in the shop, and the sound was real nice.

once the speakers and deck is installed in the BJ70 refurbishing build ( https://forum.ih8mud.com/70-series-tech/556189-1985-bj70-cnd-refubishing-modifications.html ) then i will transfer it to my removable hard top 70 to test it on the highway and will report back.

cheers

gday Wayne,

did you ever test the overhead console speakers? i ended up putting some speakers in the console i made up recently, but to be honest it doesn't sound great on its own from the front seats as i suspected and I'll be installing another set of rear roof mounted speakers to compensate. If it any help to the owner, i tested the position and it sounds good with another set on the roof in the corners at the pillar between rear windows, vertically angled near flat, about 15-20 degrees, and horizontally angled in a crossover fashion... i.e. rear right facing front left visa versa. i got the best results with a 80/20 rear/front fade config.

i don't have a photo on me with the speakers fitted, but you can see where they go and the angle, though regardless of the angle and amount of speakers I think its just too raw reaching the ear without any reverberation and softening off other surfaces.

Cheers,

daaammmmmnnnnn, not THAT is a console!!
yah, i gave it a quick test before parking the project and it sounded acceptable. when i bring it back out from storage in the spring, i can test it better. I might need to add a small amp to the system.
the one in the BJ70 build will be tested sooner, we were fine tuning the system, 2 amps with sub and 4 speakers and 4 tweets, and it sounded really clear and crisp. this owner listens to easy music, C&W and light rock. he wanted clear and loud wasn't the requirement. i think he will be pleased with the result.

you're right there, liking my music a little loudish certainly doesn't favor relying solely on roof console mounted speakers, but i still love the fact that they're out of harms way.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product for more ideas for my own, but it looks like I may finish mine first, I'm shooting for end of March fingers crossed.

Hi Wayne, you sent me here to look at your Aluminium Interior panels...WOW! Amazing stuff! You did't warn about that awesome bumper you built for this rig! Holy smokes that's a piece of work! I am hoping to build my own bumper too...and was wrestling with what to do with the 5x6.7 pieces of Channel steel that I picked up for what I think is a good price.

I wanted to put a rear tire carrier on it...too, just one though, but I never thought of putting extra lights in the back of it, or storage either. That's a great concept. One question though...how do you cut your steel so cleanly? Those cutouts, especially the door for the storage, as well as the light cutouts look like they were done with an exacto knife...on coroplast :-)

Oh, and BTW, when you mentioned "Troopie" all along I was thinking "Isuzu Trooper". This series of LC is really pretty too, with the fenders and all. Never knew they were called "Troopies"!

thanks for the compliment, appreciated.

the cutting was done with a CNC water jet at a local shop.

Greetings! I have researched the aftermarket Cruise Control space exhaustively. There is no 24V aftermarket Cruise.

I purchased, although have not yet installed, the Rostra brand Cruise Control. In addition to the base kit, I had to also get the Clutch pedal cut-off, as well as the VSS signal generator. It does not use vacuum... it's full electric powered, which I think is nicer than vacuum.

Install will be a bee-awtch... All of my signals need to be converted from 24V to 12V... i.e. the brake pedal, tachometer, and main power wires. The VSS generator does not 'bolt up' to the Toyota parts, but I've figured out a strategy to adapt them, although it will require the sacrifice of a speedo gear and speedo cable.

Peter;

There is a VSS three wire unit that is made by Toyota that will hook up to your 'case - the boys at Proffitts use them for their conversions and they hook them in to the Cruise Control units they use. Onur might be able to provide you with more information as I don't have the part number.

HTH, John

PS: I did not do the wiring on that VSS!

Ok, finally read all the threads in your sig line. You are a very patient person and a perfectionist. Another awesome build. This is an awesome expedition vehicle.

i am looking forward to getting this one completed and making the delivery to Alberta to see the owner face.

i didn't get near the work done i wanted to. :bang:
we needed to reorganize the fab area to get the press out of the main shop which lead of course to much more work than originally anticipated.
the paint touch up guys showed up Wed evening and it still needs to be delived to the paint shop once all together to get the final "blow in" paint touch ups completed.
so the side panels get weather stripping before being mounted.
the inside is also held with 3/8" aluminum retainers, it would be interesting to see someone try and break into the back through them!!
it is really starting to look like a Paddy Wagon or an ambulance for Ireland. :hhmm:

Awesome build!!! I've been following it since almost the beginning of the project and I can't wait to see it finished. Hopefully it won't take long for you to take it over again.

Do you by any chance have the measurements for these side panels? I want to do something similar for my 70 series but in plexyglass.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

thanks, i have enjoyed it so far.
the measurements are varied, take your side panels, draw them out on paper and use the template to make them up.
sorry i can't help more than that.

I just wanted to say thanks Wayne for solving the Rubik's cube of vaccum lines the po had done on my new to me hj60.. In 15 mins u did what would of taken me forever.. And seeing your build ups was awe inspiring.. Who ever those are for should be very pleased in deed.. It's good to see a guy that enjoys his work and takes pride in it.. And rightly so.. Thanks again Wayne

not a problem Dan, it was a joy to meet up with you.
now lets find you a rust free body for your 60.
when i popped the hood on your 60 and saw the SS work, it showed me that the previous owner did take care of it and didn't cut corners on the repair work.
congrats on a nice 60.
stop by anytime
and thanks for lunch.

now, you regulars that enjoy my builds, before you ask "where did all the girlie pics go?"
https://forum.ih8mud.com/ih8mud-help-...ser-guide.html
35% RULE! (Yes, this warrants it's own link!) Simply put, kids frequent the site and adults may have their young children on their lap. Avatars must be FAMILY SAFE, pics in your profile must also be FAMILY SAFE, pics in the Tech sections musts be FAMILY SAFE and all photos posted in Chat or sChat must follow the 35% rule. Not sure what it is? Search a bit, or push the limits....if you get banned, then you'll know the line! (And yes...I set the line, may move it on a whim, and it's based on what I would allow my 5-year-old niece to see...try me...there isn't much tolerance on this one...)

in other words ... post safe.

I know this sets me out as the weirdo, but I enjoy your builds more now with the girlie pics gone. ;) Besides its your AWESOME builds I come to see...thanks for continually sharing your passion with us!
