HAHA. I was going thru a dsl modem about every 3-6 months, and 768k upload was killin me. I also had to put up a local hdtv antenna to get signal when it rained. Where they mounted the dish on the roof had marginal line of sight to the birds, and my neighbor's bottle brush cedar was goin to block it. New roof was the perfect time to cut the dish outta the mix.

Ahhh!!

“New year new me” crowds at the gym. Luckily they will be gone in a week. Also, I will be back at work next week and can use the gym there.

I love to see people wanting to better themselves. It gives me energy to work harder on myself but the crowds get pretty ridiculous the first two weeks of January.

Dumper DirecTV in Sept 2017, got Spectrum. DirecTV simply became to expensive, Spectrum increased the internet speed to 100mb and for the same cost of DirecTV I get Spectrum Silver package, VOIP telephone and internet.

Just give it time and you will h8 spectrum as much or more as you did directv. I sure as hell h8 spectrum...but I’m just a loyal long term customer so chopped liver to them it seems.

We were having similar issues with Dish. Kept hearing about all these new receivers and features for NEW customers. How about us long term schmoes? One day we see yet another DISH commercial and Heather looses it. She calls them on the phone and patiently dresses them down, one at a time, right up the food chain.

Not only did we get all new equipment and up grade our plan, we got a price reduction as well. Pays to bitch. They'll give you most anything just to get you off the phone.

Oh yeah, said bitching took place on a Sat, new equipment installed on Sunday!

Years ago I was a Dish customer and had been for 8 years. At that time, everybody was offering free DVR’s with a new subscription....including Dish. I called Dish and asked them if I could have a DVR as a long-time customer. They said no. I cancelled and immediately called DirectTV and signed up. Wouldn’t you know it the next day I got a call from a nice lady on the Dish “win back team.” She offered me the whole shooting match and even agreed to pay my DirectTV early cancellation fees if I would stay. I hung up on her. I’ve been DirectTV ever since. Probably 12 years now. I liked Dish just fine but I didn’t like their sales tactics.

Problem was, you asked. Heather was not asking, not remotely asking. :)
Trust me, you do not want that woman pissed at you.

but but but...my wife won't be able to watch all those stupid worthless crap shows on TLC that @stevezero mentioned, hahaha. Plus she wouldn't get the Hallmark channel and all their 'A' rated in-house filmed 'movies'. I was forced to watch one once (long story) and the only thing that kept me from be insanely angry was imaging all the women naked...cause they are usually pretty hot!

I will say, theres no way i would have paid full price for DTV. Too many weather related issues with the signal. And when we were on TWC/Spectrum, I felt like I was gettin cornholed without lubrication.

As @roadstr6 said, we get a smokin employee deal for things at times. My wife is a fulltimer at home with some major health issues, so I needed a reliable, easy to use product that I dont need to get phone calls about every 3 minutes.

The sad thing, she doesnt really like all those shows, but some of them are freaking train wrecks that you cant look away from. Pretty much anything on Bravo network is the same. The plastic surgery show, Botched......holy cow, that show has a nutbar to sane person ratio of about 12:1. The stuff people willingly do to their bodies (and pay stupid amounts of money for) make Mickey Rubicon's bottle cap story look like a Dr Seuss book. Many travel out of the country, or go to "people" that dont have licenses. One woman had a "dr" in miami inject her rear end with 4 tubes of silicone sealant...ya know, the stuff they sell at home depot. she wondered why her rear end looked horrible, and why she got sick...

I've never paid for TV/Cable/etc......

Cord was never formed so not there to cut. LOL

Only time it bugs me is life sports, if it isn't local then getting a good quality stream can be spotty. But that's what friends houses and bars are for ;)

You are lucky Al. I was raised in the 60/70s, Pleasant Valley Sunday, TV in every room. At one point there were 7 in our house. Four bedrooms, kitchen, den and garage. My father's buddies all thought it was cool and pretty soon they all had TVs in their garages too. I know my mom won at least two of them. My grandmother bought the first color TV in the house. Sat on the edge of her bed when I was 9 and watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon in color. Blew her mind "It's Buck Rodgers in real life"

Oh I have TV and a library of 8000 movies and 10000 shows.... I just don't pay for it ;)

Don't have time to watch any of it. I'll maybe squeeze in a movie every other week. And i'll sometimes play shows in the back ground as noise while I work but i'll miss 9 out of 10 plot points that way.

In terms of live news of amazing things happening... well we haven't had anything planned like the space launch recently most amazing "news" things are unplanned and tragic like 9-11 and the japanese + indian tsunamis. But if we ever land a person on Mars i'll be watching that somewhere but most likely basic free cable channels will cover that.

So I made my first (and probably last) post on Facebook Marketplace. A sample of messages I got:

Jay: "I'd come buy it but it's my wife's birthday"
Me: "I don't ****ing care"

Macridota: "<a language I do not recognize>"
Me: "Can I get a kiss?"

Tanner: "I want those, will come by with cash right now. $xxx right?"
Me: "You divided my price in half. No."
Tanner: "Well that's all I got."
Me: "I don't ****ing care."

Ernest: "Those are no good. XYZ is better."
Me: "I don't ****ing care."

Sounds about right! I prefer Facebook marketplace because at least you can see who the other person is. Craigslist is all screwed up. I recently threw away a salt water system for a pool. Too many freaking questions, I rather throw it away than deal with the BS.

Sarah sold our dining room table and chairs via FB last week. Went super smooth. I guess we were due.

Hell, I sold my Duramax on FB. Had paid for two other listings and FB generated the most traffic. Went smoothly.

Have been playing indoor soccer in a league by my house. It's fun, gets some intense exercise in, etc. Sprained my ankle yesterday, felt bad enough at the time I thought it might be broken. Somehow this is my first time with a sprain, despite years of soccer, lacrosse and volleyball (plenty of other injuries though). Guess I was due.

Have to put wrenching projects on pause for a few days and "rest". I hate sitting still.

I sold the tires within an hour of posting on FB, that is great! However, it was all the noise and nonsense that drove me nuts. Reflecting on it, I guess I will do it again when I have something to sell and just suck it up...
