Interesting. No one mentioned skin color until you did.
I never said do away with social programs. They serve a purpose, but are abused, bloated, and used for political gain at every election.
people feel as though they have a 'right' to gov't assistance, as it has been part of certain society's for far too long.
The gov't providing help, instead of friends, family, neighbors, churches, volunteers, encourages corruption and the removes the shame of being a leach.
I assume you ( or your employer) paid into the unemployment insurance program? That's fine. No one is mad when you use insurance. That is different from free lunches, Section 8, free cell phones, food stamps, medicaid for your kids you can't afford, or going to the ER for a sore throat because you know it will be free for you (but others end up paying for it). All that needs to stop. People need to be held accountable for their actions.
If I need some help in life, I have a good group of friends who we all look out for each other, a small but close family, work 'friends' who would help, a church, insurance, and my own savings and hard work ethic. These would all be utilized before I asked the 'man' for a handout.
But, to my point, by giving power back to the people to encourage them to make better decisions and reducing the size of the nanny state, that reduces the size of the gov't....and what politician wants that?
