So update the tool bag, the green bag I got from China tore, not happy with the quality. (Its still functional but the belt tore off)
I have expanded a little on the tools based on usage and needs.
  • Jaw locking plyers
  • Small and large sockets (from 6 mm to 24 mm)
  • An assortment of shrink wrap and a small lighter.
  • Various terminals and fuses
  • Spare AC belt
  • Spare Alternators belt
  • Various sizes bolts and nuts most common used in LC
  • Spare battery terminal'
  • I added a battery operated 12v blower as well, which comes in handy for cleaning (sand dunning is messy business) and also in lighting fires for BBQ
I added a blue plastic box which fits all the above in one place, in the future will swap this for drawers but for now its not taking too much space.

Thanks for your honesty, the tools well most likely have the same fate when you need them most 🤷‍♂️

I tend to carry a good sized Rigid tool box with the tools I know I'll most likely need. I have a Rigid milk crate that locks onto the tool box and I keep fluids/grease in that with some towels. It all gets ratchet strapped to the floor. Had pretty good luck with that setup staying put on my trail days so far.

I always struggle with buying nice tools for trail use. I completely agree they're more reliable and nicer to work with, but it doesn't matter how much you spent if you drop something and lose it.

(Or lend it to someone to help out and they forget to return it)

Have been using the tools daily now, most are quite good..
What i had issues with are the following:
  • The green bag, the belts tore off (pic attached]
  • I had bought another brand APT also chines, much lower quality and replaced them with Total
  • Wrenches, hammers etc are well built very happy with them.
I have 2 sets one for my workshop one for the car, been using the car set almost daily now.

Most of my trail tool I got off flea Bay, so if I lose it or something doesn't get returned no big deal

These are the bags I use. Extremely heavy duty and made in USA (Colorado) and very trustworthy…both their bags and the owners of the company.

Yah shame with our currency, customs and shipping this would cost double all my tools and bags put together 🤣🤣

Extremely cool though

@Vulkyn that’s too bad. Do you have any contacts in the USA that could buy them for you and then ship them off to you? And would that get around the issue of Custom charges etc? Don’t know.

Yah thats actually doable will check around. Traveling has been much less frequent but i might find someone thanks a lot!

Got this clamp very flexible and practical.

I was able to fit lights on it, flag once and used it to connect a shower to it. Ordered 2 more to have 4 total of general use.

Highly recommended

At present, my 'toolkit' is a 300 mm adjustable spanner/wrench with jaws, and a genuine Toyota screw jack plus a common-garden 4-way wheel brace. I used to carry my whole tool kit in the back, but slugging around all the tools all the time is a zero-sum gain idea.

A really great nifty cadget to organise scattered cables.

Flag pole installed using clamp.

Blue Ridge Overland makes an excellent tool roll too. Very high quality, and the company really stands behind their products.

I have a backpack that I put the tool roll and a zippered bag for sockets in. I also leave a timing light in there, although that may be overkill.

I've recently decided that I am sick of always needing the tools in the car while in the shop, and now have a separate set for the rigs. I see the concerns about cheap tools, but I have had decent luck with them, and the price is right, so am using a bunch of Icon brand sockets for the vehicle toolkit.

Also, the idea of carrying just what my vehicle needs is compelling, but so many times on the trail or the road, the tools get used to help others, so having complete sets is what I opt to do.

I always carry fusible links, relays and fuses. In my bag, I have a selection of various male, female and butt splice connectors, electrical tape, a stripper/crimper, and multimeter.

Also, I have a few vehicle specific tools - the 80 and 200 have different needs (the "large hub socket for the 80, and the axle nut for the 200, for example) - that go in the bag.

I'm not going to clutter your thread with a complete list, but just wanted to add to the general info.

One last thought is the kit should be specific to your skills. If you don't know how to use tools, a credit card, triple a card, and cell phone may be the ideal toolkit. For others, enough stuff to rebuild the engine might be worthwhile. :)

So almost one year now since I put together my tool setup, holding up very well. I have used them a lot (more than my house tools for sure) and no issues found.

I really like the black connectors they work great for quick repairs with out having to mess with duct tape etc. but for thin cables.

I did add a bag of electrical bits and pieces (connectors, fuses, crimping etc. )

The molle bag means I can keep everything easily accessible with out taking space (work in progress still, quick picture for reference)

This is a bit more than i need, but it has proven quite helpful for not only myself but others as well.

Do you have a link to those connectors?
I got them from ali express (link below, use prepaid card) but its a gold mine for such stuff.
