Viair behind the panel. Running hose to the rear bumper. Have only tested in driveway but seems to work fine. Switch protected form dogs etc behind ashtray opening. Popped in a sub while I was at it. None of it is visible.

Only way to get most of the bitumen stuff off would be the dry-ice method. When I did the front section I couldn't get any so just removed any that was loose or busted and left the rest. With the back section I just choose to start doing it as a...

16 x 8 toyota factory 6-stud steelies would be great - I've not had a problem with my set of ROH's but they're made in Oz and I got them new with the then new tyres in 2015.

Interesting - those wheels are very hard to get here used so couldn't imagine the trouble involved to get a new set of 5. Just tried the part numbers in Amayama - 42601-60362 doesn't exist according to their system but 42601-60361 comes back...

80 series steelies. I'm not sure why these older wheels would come like this from Toyota. Thanks @Onur . Do you know if 42601-60362 is a correct/proper replacement part? The ones I returned had that part number sticker and that's what I see...

42601-60361 are being manufactured to this day. They are definitely not NOS or discontinued or anything like there. There is most definitely at least a set of 5 at NAPCC. They also do not come in boxes. They come with a protective cover on...

First coat of hardware store rust-preventive enamel paint has gone in today - because the solvent softens the bitumen of the original sound deadening stuff it takes a fair while to cure but I ran out of paint anyway so have to wait two days to...

Since I recently pulled out the rear full-width bench seat to investigate problems and replace some things I got inspired to 'activate' the long-delayed phase 2 of the flooring work that had phase 1 done about 7 years ago. Phase 1 was much worse...

Can any sort of truck air compressor be easily adapted/retrofitted to a diesel or petrol motor in an 80?

sunrk replied to the thread White-Single Stage Paint?.
I can get 045 aerosols single-pack from BCS Auto Paints here (in Sydney). I've used it - doesn't give gloss finish but is somewhere between matte and gloss. I don't really care with my 80 being 31 years old. Definitely requires a primer though.

White 045 colour code is non-clear coated. That's the 'standard' colour as far as I can tell.

FYI this is the Aisin one on Ebay claiming to be a replacement for the factory original. No cross-reference to Toyota part numbers is provided. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/153777620116

      My bad. Sorry for confusion.

Change to the rear disk brake setup.
    • sunrk
Ok so are the generic aftermarket Aisin ones that pop up on Ebay, etc. the same as the original factory ones? Most of the factory part number boosters are NLA. Can you explain how this makes a difference when the factory setup is considered...

I only have very basic understanding of hydraulic systems. Terrain Tamer now sells twin-diaphragm brake boosters for 80's and other landcruisers. What's so special or good about a non-standard one? If it matters, my 80 is non-ABS.

tiny screwdriver for the cowl plate screws might be 09041-1C150. On my 80 some of them are not philips/jis head but require a small m8 spanner but then again I don't have a proper tool for the philips/jis type other than 'standard' hardware store...

The original paintwork is very rough not smooth/shiny anymore so it is probably a good 'growing medium' for lichen, mould, etc.
    • sunrk
Well my 80 is parked outside in the weather permanently. It gets shaded a fair bit of the day by trees and the neighbour's property. I've discover a bit of lichen around the roof gutters before (not on the roof) but now I've found that there is...

Has the 80 series got much chance of getting traction with the HPP?

sunrk replied to the thread Clearview Compact Mirrors.
They are really good mirrors if you do a lot of towing/travelling and have a big van or big boat or a big camper trailer, but they stick out a long way too. The compact version looks really good except for the convex mirrors - if they had flat...

My 80 has a full-width second row bench seat as it's base model vehicle. Standard velour cloth covering. I have a canvas seat cover set to fit to it. I've known it's had some age-related issue for yonks and just recently pulled it out to renew...

sunrk replied to the thread Clearview Compact Mirrors.
Clearview's are nice but I can't tolerate mirrors that are convex as you get a false indication of object distances when using them. They're really common here and many people run one version of them even when they don't tow stuff. genuine...

Does the insurance company come to the part for cat converter thefts?
    • sunrk
Asking because it may become possible in about 2 months to have money to do something about the old original 1hz in my 80. I've never tackled doing such a job and I realise it involves seperating the transfer and gearbox from the motor and...
