$6000 will get you the body parts you need and maybe even a cheap paint job.

An aluminum tub from Aqualu would be a pretty cool foundation to build on...

Might be too late, but lawyer lawyer lawyer. Insurance companies hate to get letters from them for a reason. I learned that lesson long ago.

Don't you know a guy in Asheville?;)

Dang, that sucks about the payout. I know the taste is sour right now, but sleep on it. Don't know how much timw you have to decide, but I would agree that if the truck is pretty solid from the dash down, you could at the very least sell it for what the buyback is and have the option.

At least you know what you have with this one. Salvage title wouldnt stop me from buying it. I got 1 with a salvage title now (F250 not a 40) and for what I wanted it for, I couldnt care less. Resale is impacted, but I dont plan to do it any time soon so don't really care. I realize that with the 40, the future sale would be impacted, but if you werent planning to sell anyway, then it wouldn't really matter, but it will be a project and not one that will be done overnight. So end of the day it really is just what you're after. If you want something to kick around in and dont have the energy to put it back together, I'd buy it back, sell it as is and then see if you cant find a suitable replacement. If you are ready to put it back together, then buy it back and to at it. Either way, I agree, it sounds like it is worth saving from the crusher for sure.

Ok, I am going to total it, buy it back, and sell the 40.

If you're interested in buying, there are 3 people in line already. However, feel free to PM or call (I hate frickin' texting) at Nine 1 nine, six one zero, zero 0 four eight. I'm really struggling to put a value on a running 71 40 with smooshed body panels/no top.

@JohnVee no, I don't think I'll look for another.

This whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. Sorry, Joe....

Whaaat? I can imagine a sour taste in your mouth, but you were REALLY digging it. I hope this bad experience will fade, and you'll change your mind.

Nooooo.Minty! I am the one that found this truck near Blackhawk,Colorado and pulled the plow off, cleaned all the mouse s*** out of it and got her running and back on the road after years sitting. So sad to see it this way.

@rckhound wow, I had no idea! It definitely was a peach after you and Mike had it, ran great, drove great. Guess it just wasn't meant to be with me. I believe @SFROMAN is going to keep it alive now, still a shame about the panels/paint...

Who ended up with this? Just wondering how it is these days.

@SFROMAN has it, hopefully he can update this thread...

The 40 only sees a few miles around the neighborhood. I haven’t done much to yet other than start it every once in a. While.
I replaced the windshield frame( the original was damaged during Joe’s accident)
I banged up (straightened) the bent fenders so they look decent.
I was going to bring it to this years Carolina relic run but I brought my 83 hilux instead. I should brought the 40.
The plan is to eventually start doing all the metal work on the body then do the body work.
I have another 40 that I am thinking I am going to use to replace all the banged up panels.

a month ago I bought a front disc brake axle for it. I plan to convert to disc brakes all four corners with an 80 series master cylinder.

the motor still runs perfect. Even with a bent up radiator

Here is a quick attempt at straightening the bent up fenders. They are nowhere near perfect but they look a lot better than they were before

The in-line six still runs perfect. Can barely tell the truck is on

The new windshield frame. Not color matched yet but at least it isn’t bent

All these photos were taken right before relic run.

If the rest of that 40 is anything like the hood.. take some CLR and Fluid film to it and it will shine up amazingly :)
