My lord still finding things out that my PO or PO’s mechanic did crazy
Never underestimate the PO's ability to screw up your '40. Take tons of photos for the before and after comparison. Use the FSM and search here to ensure that you are reassembling correctly and to spec.

I'd suggest getting the right steering damper for your vehicle. This one worked great for me and is a complete kit from @cruiseroutfit

There are others from other vendors available. I did not see what year your chassis was.

You're dampener is aftermarket. A stk dampener uses the hole in the center arm and attaches to the frames crossmember. You can see it in @lowenbrau 's post #7.

No I did see that but my po used an aftermarket ranch from the 2000’s with ranch I shocks and I just bought an installed new Bill Stein 5150s as well as this and for steering damper because I didn’t know that I was supposed to have a dampener at that spot. I just don’t know those things so when I look under their at what my previous owner did I just take off the old reinstalling the new in the exact spots that he had it assuming that he had it in the right spot obviously those assumptions I should never assume but that was my line of thinking as someone that just doesn’t know these things.

What are your recommendations as far as having a damp at this aftermarket spot versus the spot that you’re referring to? Is there a huge difference in performance?

And yes, I did see in post seven what he was talking about but I just thought well that’s not where my PO had it so that’s not where I thought it was supposed to go

Aftermarket damper is different and is normaly use with saginaw PS conversion
I have a Toyota Tercel power steering conversion again from PO
Sorry for lighting I was too lazy to turn on the light and thought there’d be a flash but you can see it

I wanted something silver to match my Bill Stein 5150s. I can’t use bright yellow. Id just kill myself.

The dampener you bought will work. You just need to mount the end that attaches to the tie rod so it doesn't interfere with the tie rods travel. Make sure the U bolts are tight so they don't slip.

So you mean, mount it as the instructions say, and then tighten up those u bolts?
Just confirming

I just noticed this about a “different” steering stabilizer for use with a Saginaw power steering conversion.

I have also read the you don’t need to use a steering stabilizer with a Saginaw power steering conversion

Currently, my 40 does not have one. Which would be the correct fit for it?
