Did you end up putting a smaller pulley on the alt to spin it a little faster? You have a slowly turning engine, you'll never overspin the alt.

My one wheel drive vehicle is nearly ready. Installed a bigger fuel tank yesterday, now my range should be nearly 300 miles.

Nah, I haven't yet. It had worked fine before... When you give her just a bit of gas the volts go up to where they should be. My Pig's idle is set around 600 and starts cold around 500, then goes to 600 when it warms up. I think I'm going to turn the idle warm up to 700 and that should fix her.

300 miles huh? Guess I don't have to carry extra fuel for you now!

Me "You can get a windshield gasket, right?"
Shop "Yup"
Me "Are you sure? There is only 1 place that I know of that has windshield gaskets and I have to have this ready on time for a trip."
Shop "Yup, no problem."

Shop "We can't find a windshield gasket"
Me

I sent 'em a link via email. They want to install the new windshield with the old gasket until the new gasket comes in. The old gasket leaked before it was pulled out and will leak even worse now, not to mention safety concerns. I'm really not too partial to having my new headliner stained with water leaking through an old windshield gasket.

:bang::bang::bang:

To be continued...

You can still get the windshield gasket from Toyota. I dont know of anywhere else to get it besides i would only use an OEM gasket anyway.

Windshield rubber won't be here until Monday. There was no communication between the upholstery shop and the glass guys. Hopefully I'll get my truck back on Tuesday morning, which leaves me 4 days to finish getting ready to drive to MI.

Do y'all like my new trailer?

(The 40 isn't mine.)

From the PO...
"I call it Yodel. The chuckwagon.
3/4 ton. Factory springover.
Parking brake. Folding "T" bar for pushing
it around. Removable tailgate. Top is rubberized canvas.
All side held by rubber bungees so it just pop pop pop
and you roll 'em up. All four sides or any combo.
Bikini top. Or, remove the canvas and bows.
Beautiful wooden top slats inside. I have a large
piece of solid wood which attaches to the side. The Bar.
Open one side like a canopy over the bar.
It also has leveling devices at the corners.
Originally it hauled a MONDO compressor for planes.
I have the original swiss title. It was constructed in '53 ,
and redone it '73. Register plates still on truck. In Swiss.
It came with 700x16 and I put 750x16s on it. 33s.
The tires are from South America. 8 ply or other.
It can hold an unbelievable amount of gear.
Hardly notice it's back there. It's not in either side mirror
and it fills the rear view mirror."

I do :hillbilly:

nice trailer. That rocks.

that trailer is sweet. Are you bringing it camping? I brought mine camping last year. I'm actually thinking about selling it, the family doesn't want to go camping any more. :bang:

Unfortunately it won't be coming. I'm struggling with last minute prep of the truck, coupled with working to 10 tonight - the joys of business ownership. I tried to convince the wife that taking the trailer was a good idea but that didn't fly.

Wow - its been over 3.5 months since I've updated this thread. Things have been busy. The UP Overland trip was awesome and there is an article in the current Nov/Dec issue of Toyota Trails and a sneak peak is online @ TLCA : Toyota Trails, Nov/Dec 2010.

The Pig was pulled into my garage last week to go under the knife. I'm planning a cut-n-turn and full rebuild on the front axle along with pulling and replacing the oil pan to stop a leak at the front main. I'm also going to replace a couple of seals at my speedo housing to stop a few minor leaks there. I think I have an exhaust leak somewhere up front so I'll work on tracking that down too.

I also cranked up my work with Southeast Overland and we are now a vendor on MUD. A link to our vendor forum is in my sig line. We just became a vendor for Baja Rack and also are finalizing a vendor agreement with another manufacturer to carry roof top tents, vehicle awnings, and possibly a few more things. Check us out if you have a chance.

I read your article immediately after getting the Toyota Trails in the mail. I was excited to read a good pig story. Sounds like you had a good trip and the 55 held up well over many miles.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the results of your cut-n-turn.

That was a great Pig story in the Trails...

Thanks guys - it was a fun but looooong trip. I'm headed down to Cedar Key FL the first week in Jan but I think I'll be driving the FJC this time and not the Pig. :D

It has been almost 5 months since I've updated this post - tisk tisk tisk!

My Pig has sat in my garage unused and all but untouched. I've been swamped with Southeast Overland and driving my FJC but now it's time to get the Pig back on the road.

She is getting a front axle rebuild and an Aussie locker in the front - I'm stoked. I will be running stock front axles and FJ60 birfs as-is with the Aussie. I do have the 2Lo Tcase mod which will help keep the front from binding and I'm light on the skinny pedal too. Upgraded axles and birfs will be in store sometime down the road but for the time being I have to save some $. I thought about an ARB but I want to keep the Pig simple - no air fittings, compressors, etc.
