When I saw this 'crack' I went ahead to the machine shop and asked if they had a way to check and see if it was a crack or not - they said they did not.

Is there a good way to check and see if this is a crack? I've been searching but haven't found much.
 
is that crack in the end or the main body? I may have pieces...
 
Last post - gotta get back to work.

PM'd Downey about his headers - seeing if there are still any floating around. Marks Off Road has some Downey 6-1 headers but I read that the 6-2-1 seal better. Marks are available @ https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/312397-nib-ceramic-tr-y-header-f-2f-375-a.html and are $375 plus shipping on MUD or $329 plus shipping on his website - I'll have to see why there is a price difference.

MAFs headers @ MAF Tuned Ceramic Coated Headers F and 2F Engines look nice.

Cost is $465. MAF states "Connecting Y-Pipe and EGR block off sold separately if needed. Header will not fit FJ55 with stock steering system, or with 68-9/1969 intake manifolds." So it looks like I"ll need the Y-Pipe @ $105 and the EGR block off plate @ 12 so this is getting expensive quick at ~ $590 without shipping. My Pig does not have the 'stock' steering system as I've installed a Sag/Mini Truck system...wonder if it would fit my Pig...

I've been reading up on sound proofing. I think the asphalt products would work fine for me and I've heard good things from 2 MUD members who have used them - but then you have a ton of other's pitching a hissy fit about how the asphalt doesn't adhere well and turns into a gooey mess...so...I'm looking at some of the butyl options including QuietCrap and SecondSkin. They cost about twice as much or more but are thicker and I'm sure they work better...
 
EvenThough, are you talking about the U.P. Overland Adventure? I'll be there with my 40 this year, if all goes right. It'd be nice to see your rig and drool over it, as it looks great and I know the hard work you've been putting into it!
 
Yup, that's it! It will be one heck o a long haul but I think it will be fun.

OK - this thread just got kicked back into gear. I can't believe I was almost on page 6!

The UP Overland trip dates were announced and I reserved my spot. Come hell or high water I'm driving my Pig. The :princess: is going too so that means a few creature comfort mods. My list includes:

1) Install headers and new exhaust
2) Install Quiet Crap sound proofing
3) Install radio
4) Build rear storage and sleeping platform
5) Have a buncho shakedown runs to make sure this thing runs perfect. I'm going to try and get a buddy to put a wrench on this thing too after I'm done with it to check behind me. I'm prone to make...you know...mistakes... :doh:

I've been swamped with work lately and just started a second company which I hope to unveil and announce soon. This new 'adventure' is gonna be fun.

I'm ordering the Quiet Crap now - time to get busy!

Oh, and if time allows I might take my M716 trailer apart, have it sandblasted, and reassemble it to tow up to the UP (but I'm not holding my breath.) Now that would be cool!
 
QuietCrap is on the way - should ship out on Friday 5-7 days.... ;) It would be interesting to know how much you use...

I think your the first FJ55 to use it! ;)

I'll let Mark (mmw68) answer that one.

I chose Quiet Crap b/c it was less expensive than Second Skin and other 'high end' products. It has good reviews on MUD, comes from a MUD vendor, and should perform better than asphalt roof repair materials.

I wanted to really quiet down the interior noise level on my Pig but not break the bank, and also didn't want any type of material that would hold water since this Pig doesn't have new weatherstripping and water does get inside during heavy rains.
 
Just pulled my manifolds apart to prep for the Downey header install. I had removed the flapper and installed the SOR block-off plate. The plate was pretty warped but all gaskets seemed to be in good shape and still sealing well between the manifolds. The underside of the intake manifold though is ash white. I pulled two spare intake manifolds and both of them are black on the underside. I thought the ash white color was from running lean but how could that color get on the underside of the intake manifold with the SOR block-off plate installed?
