Here are a couple of pics for ya.

Pic 1) front bumper with a nice new coat of paint
Pic 2) passenger drip rail front - I didn't take a 'before' pic - it was pretty bad.
Pic 3) passenger drip rail rear - no before pic - was really really bad - Todd or Sean will tell ya

Note: I have not cleaned up the outside of the drip rail yet.

Coupula more pics.

Pic 4) Inner rear passenger quareter - I have some fancy wood covers for these that came from a PO - I want to mount my shovel here and maybe an axe. I'm thinking about drilling four holes in the vertical metal strips and placing mounts there that would go through the wooden panel - need to roam around Lowes and see what they have that I could rig something up with.
Pic 5) Headliner and insulation out. I need to wire wheel the rest of the insulation out - note rear roof support is bent downward. I think this happened during my Piggie's 'nap.'
Pic 6) Doh! I had to beat the ever living tar out of the drip rail to get it to go up. I didn't know I broke the windown until I was done, hopped off my stool and took a look - Doh!!! o well

Sorry if I missed this detail but are you planning to put a roll cage in?

Strongly considering it. If MetalTech will go ahead and come out with theirs for a reasonable price then I'll go with theirs. Right now the only option costs > $1400 unless I go custom. I don't have a tubing bender so I can't do it myself.

What about Lance?

I'll ask Mark about it when I'm out there at the end of the month.

You know - I've had Lance send me several things but I haven't asked him about a cage. I don't need anything fancy - A, B and C loops, don't need a D - don't need frame tie-ins. I don't expect to roll - just insurance - and for the most part it will make the wife feel better and shut the mother-in-law up.

Thanks - let me know what you find out.

I didn't either. :frown:

And I don't expect to roll...but I wouldn't bet on it. A cage would also allow for me to install 4 pts up front and a 'grab bar' that my wife/co-pilot can hang onto - kinda like in a 40.

The nice (I forget model name) MetalTech cages for 40's run a little over 600, that's with bends around the dash, etc. If I could get a cage for a 55 w/o bends around the dash for anywhere near that price I would be very happy. Function and price is > form.

another roll cage option...I think w/o protecting the back it is around $1100...you could talk with them about a simpler more cost effective option.

For that price I'll donate a chunk of money to my local Cruiser club and we'll buy a bender and I'll bend one up with the club. We have numerous people who want to bend up a cage. Anything too much more than $800 and I'll find another solution since I have a good source of hrew and dom - thanks though.

Looks like the price for the cage from redline land cruisers has gone down to 899 per their webpage. I've emailed to see what the cage would cost w/o the D-hoop and diagonals from the B to A-hoop.

I have another option lined up that looks to be the most promising from a fine fine vendor. I'll keep everyone updated. This one is staying under wraps until the unveiling if it moves forward.

Steven, $or has rebuilt front & rear lower hinges; just bought one and price is reasonable;...........there goes my new digital camera :(

ouch is right.........thank goodness I only needed the Drivers side spring hinge; got ti in yesterday and it looks new; $OR did a nice job on rebuilding it....... I think that between Heather and myself we could get you going on the hinges; some of mine are crappy though..... am going to take look at that pig close to Bham to see if I can get some stuff off of it; maybe it is time to do another DD run in Atlanta?

Thanks Lou - to put it simply my front hinges are S-H-O-T. I don't want to put my doors back on b/c as soon as I shut them they are going to muck up my paint. If you have something you want to get rid of let me know and I can send some funds your way. Let me know about the parts Piggie in Bham.

hinges

Steve, are your hinges so shot they can't be rebuilt? If that's the case you can have mine, I ordered rebuilt hinges from Sor.
There's a thread on rebuilding 55 hinge pins here somewhere, have you seen it? Anyway let me know if you want my hinges, it will be a couple weeks before I can send them, waiting for Lance to finish my pig.
Hinges will be the first thing I replace, BTW your rig is really taking shape and looking good.

Thanks Lou. My hinges *might* be able to be rebuilt but the fronts, especially the uppers, are soooo loose that I hesitate to even attempt the rebuild, spend hours on it, when I don't think the outcome will be satisfactory. The rear hinges are good enough especially when the rear doors won't be used much...the fronts are a whole different story.

I would be more than happy to take your old hinges off your hands. Let me know where to send funds.

Thanks!

Little update.

Got a couple hours in yesterday. Put some more POR Patch and POR 15 on the passenger drip rail. I'm not too happy with how the POR Patch is drying. It seems to 'honeycomb' if put on anywhere more than paper thin but does dry rock hard. I stripped out some of the factory sealer on the driver's drip rail and will hopefully slather it in POR Sunday. I do have some rust on the roof so for the time being I'm wire wheeling those spots and covering the small rust holes with POR Patch. To deal with the interior rust I've been spraying Metal Ready (POR Product) on the underside for about a week. I HOPE this will slow down the rust until I find a new roof. I've had a few possible donors but nothing has come through yet. I think my next temporary roof rust fix step is to spray some rattle can rust converter on the underside of the roof and then I'll throw some Rustoleum in there...good enough for the time being for a trail Pig. I did test the rust converter out on a section of the frame that has light surface rust. I was surprised by the results. I've heard they results don't last but for a cheap fix to a trail Pig they might just do!

I have something else in the works that I'm trying to justify...will have to work on the wife a bit...stay tuned!
