South American spec? Not sure what’s happening there. They never had plating on them though. Kinda different!
Interesting. They are the same numbers as the US spec:

81270LAMP ASSY, LICENSE PLATE
81270-290351
81270-60060FOR RH.1
81690-60010FOR LH.

I noticed your license plate lamp covers aren't chrome. Future project or leaving them black? Just curious.
Early Corollas or Coronas or whatever those were that Toyota was selling back then came with those exact same license plate lights. Sometimes in black.

User @Eric Ellis set me up with a full set of faithful reproduction sill plates. Thanks again Eric!

Naturally you remove the head when you see other signs of things that aren’t going to fly. The exhaust manifold was leaking and had eroded the sealing surface. So off it came to get welded and gone through but first I did a complete flush again this time knowing I was going to have better access to dig out the corrosion and rust chips in the back of the block. I used bottle brushes and a small flush hose to injected water into the front of the block while aggregating the sediment towards the back and out the drain.
It literally looked like I was planning for gold on the ground afterwards.

While I was at it I took the time to rinse all the hardware and assorted things that were on hand and off through the same process so I can send over to zinc. These went out yesterday and I’m sure are done already I just need to drive to pick them up.
Oh yea a speedometer from Classic Cruisers in Colorado showed up so I can convert to MPH and have a working odometer. That may as well also get the treatment.

Some NOT so original spec stuff. I powder coated this stuff the same color as the gray (RAL7037) that looks like the closest match to the original gray on the rims.
Waiting on a valve cover from a user to arrive so I can get it finished the same.

I was wondering where your build thread was…or might be.😉 Well, one of the two caveats I gave you on the phone actually played out, which is unfortunate.☹️ The homemade wire screen under the accelerator pump wasn’t just there to hold the checkball in place of a misplaced retainer: the metal that the retainer would seat against is no longer there: eaten away with corrosion.☹️

Here’s a couple of pics I snapped Monday night during the initial disassembly:

I will call you later to discuss options.

not sure, but I think it’s a pop rivet. :hillbilly:

Unfortunate circumstances with the carb @65swb45 but as discussed we will
Proceed and see how it goes. Thanks for the short order of turnaround d and thoroughness!

The front timing cover has an odd scenario. The inside behind the seal has a coarse grooved ring that appears to be soldered in. I noticed a squeak intermittently from the engine before I tore it down. I think I found it. Oddly it does t take much to get the timing cover to rub on the outer diameter of the dampener. Let me explain.

It appears the the ring is to walk oil from the slinger to the sealing portion of the timing cover seal to lubricate. The odd part is the tolerance is so close that the slightest adjustment will have the dampener rubbing on the cover.

I ordered the SOR speedy sleeve and went to install and noticed the sleeve doesn’t bottom on the lip with their kit. It is advised to grab another pipe or piece of tooling to pound the sleeve further down.
You can see the sleeve isn’t all the way flys to the lip on the dampener in the first pic. Second is after I found a ball joint install sleeve to fit and get it in proper place.

Your rebuilt carburetor also has some new yellow zinc:
