So i made a post in the 40 section here
. Since this 40 had zero wiring
. Making the engine run is easy with the SBC. but having no gas gauge has left me nervous since i have no clue how far i can go . So i pulled the gauge cluster and looked at what i had to work with
. Not much . but enough . i also found what was left of some wires in the frame. honestly i never paid much attention to them since they were just cut off . After looking closer i could see a yellow -red wire. and on the cluster there is a yellow -red to the fuel gauge
. I also seen on the cluster that a sol.id yellow must be the feed to the gauge since in jumps to the temp and oil as well . So i put a hot wire to the yellow and wired the yellow -red to the yellow -red ( from the gas tank sending unit . And Boom no we didn’t blow up but the gauge did work . Score . Since i was in there i figured it would be nice to have tail lights
. i found the brake light switch of coarse everything was cut off of it . hmm but it had 1 wire coming off ? this made no sense to me i looked up the switch and it shows 2 wires . OK So for fun i ran a hot wire to the 1 wire and put my test light to the other side and We have brake lights when i step on the brakes
. I did print out the wiring diagram so now i am good i can wire everything like oe . Really it is very basic . When i got this 40 it came with a brand new painless wiring kit but it has way to many things so i didn’t want to use that . but i can use the wires to get the colors correct or at least close to oe and not just 500 red wires and some black wires .
