So i made a post in the 40 section here ;). Since this 40 had zero wiring :bang:. Making the engine run is easy with the SBC. but having no gas gauge has left me nervous since i have no clue how far i can go . So i pulled the gauge cluster and looked at what i had to work with :hmm:. Not much . but enough . i also found what was left of some wires in the frame. honestly i never paid much attention to them since they were just cut off . After looking closer i could see a yellow -red wire. and on the cluster there is a yellow -red to the fuel gauge . I also seen on the cluster that a sol.id yellow must be the feed to the gauge since in jumps to the temp and oil as well . So i put a hot wire to the yellow and wired the yellow -red to the yellow -red ( from the gas tank sending unit . And Boom no we didn’t blow up but the gauge did work . Score . Since i was in there i figured it would be nice to have tail lights . i found the brake light switch of coarse everything was cut off of it . hmm but it had 1 wire coming off ? this made no sense to me i looked up the switch and it shows 2 wires . OK So for fun i ran a hot wire to the 1 wire and put my test light to the other side and We have brake lights when i step on the brakes :steer:. I did print out the wiring diagram so now i am good i can wire everything like oe . Really it is very basic . When i got this 40 it came with a brand new painless wiring kit but it has way to many things so i didn’t want to use that . but i can use the wires to get the colors correct or at least close to oe and not just 500 red wires and some black wires .

What I had to work with 🤦🏻‍♂️

did you get rid of the little white piggy back wire on the gauge lites that doesnt go anywhere ? its gonna short and leave you in the trail....

Not sure what they had that for but it’s gone . I do not have the amp meter wired. Since a run a single wire GM Alt . I don’t need that anyways I can see all the vitals on the sniper screen. Really I just wanted a Fuel gauge 😃. I think I will get a Dakota gauge cluster eventually. We will see

So things i dont like

I am not 100 percent sold on the front bumper :hmm:. I think the 40 looks really clean with a real stubby front end . I know this will protect it but still think it can look better . Will circle back this winter .

Tires. Not a fan of the look. but they work well :hmm:. I need to get the Baja pro x. on

The top . I like the look better with a top on . I am picking up another hard top so i might make 1 a summer hard top ( just leave the glass out ) and a winter :hmm:

Transmission While the TH400 may be strong. I HATE it. So its either going TH350 or back to a manual one way or another the motor is going back and at that point this motor /trans just may go somewhere else .

Steering it works fine. but i have everything to go full hydro and that is the plan At that point i will circle back to the front bumper since i can bring things in some then without the Saginaw box .

Once i get it out a few times i will learn what i need to work on

Are you feeling ok? I love my 80, but it'll never crawl like the 40 you had before or this one I'm betting
Actually i am depressed We should have been on the Rubicon Today . I went out today to actually load the 40 on the trailer for the first time and the trailer is 82 wide 40 is 86 then i noticed that 1 of the tires on the trailer was coming apart . I came in and listed everything for sale. Over it all

The worst part is i listed both very cheap and people still offer stupid numbers or do i want to trade for a ford galaxy and there kids atv Ugg So i am probably stuck with dang things for life :bang:

Crazy talk! Fix your trailer and force the 40 on it then hit the road. You will feel better later. An 80 is just another version of the same headache.

Curious, clarify HATE regarding the 400 ? what hate ? noise, heat, shift points, slam shifts, too soft, what stall is the conv ?

the length it pushes the engine to far forward

Well if you keep 40 but change it up let me know when your ready to sell the 400 & adapter, are you thinking of selling Orion as well ?

Well No one wanted it . had a few offers of 5000k and a Chrysler 300 . I had to sleep on that deal. but in the end i did not want to disappoint them with my piece of junk . So The Saga continues . I pulled the listings.

Figure since I am stuck with this thing I better make it so I can get it to the dump someday . So I started operation make it work . Fat body will have no excuses now 😁
