^ yea, I was really looking forward to that. Next year.
...I heard the storm last weekend actually helped put sand in good places. The island might fix itself, hopefully they'll fix the cabins.

I could also be down at the coast somewhere other than PI fishing but just didn't make it. No good excuse.

Do any of you guys have a pedal kayak? I've kinda been obsessed lately with getting one - for fishing on local lakes, soundside and ICW; and for the general exercise and solitude.

Not looking at anything like the Hobies with Mirage Drive, but something smallish (10ft?) with pedal drive.

If you have one or any experience with them, educate me.

I have limited experience with pedal yaks, but I can tell you that you will not be happy with a 10 ft yak.the only thing they do well is piss off their owners. they wont track straight, and will be harder to paddle over longer distances because of the big flare required to go from the bow to where you sit.

at bare minimum, you should be looking at a 12 to 14ft length. I'm partial to my 10 year old wilderness systems tarpon sit on top fishing yak (paddle, not pedal powered)

if I had to do it over, I'd seriously consider a native watercraft ultimate 145. it's a paddle only, but its stable enough to stand and cast from, has a drop down skeg for longer distance paddling, and can be configured for solo or tandem use. the seats are ultra comfy, and are removable to use as camp chairs. theyve been on the market for a while, so used boats are out there.

the best advice I can give is to attend demo days by local shops where you can sit and go out in a bunch of different models. then you'll know what your back, butt, and wallet can agree on. well, 2 outta 3 of those.

Thanks so much for the intel, @stevezero. I haven't even tried one yet, but do plan to demo some prior to buying. I am really enamored with the pedal yaks so I have the option to both paddle and pedal, and hopefully get a good full workout each time.

I've canoed and kayaked before. Neither is for me, the SOT w/ peddle+paddle seems ideal...

Trying to learn something. 😎

Find the flounder, release the flounder.

Took the kids out for some COVID-19 social distancing approved farm pond fishing over the weekend. Bass and bream are waking up. We caught several of each. No bigguns' though.

First day on the water this year. Other than a severe finger avulsion, mini summer squal, high winds, heavy rain and falling trees it was great.
Caught two bass two bream and my first rockingham county stihlhead.

Waterways are closed in SC. Apparently the virus swims.

Don't have any pictures/stories from the water, but I did a thing. 2019 Hobie Compass with the Mirage 180 Drive w/ turbo fins, rectangular center hatch with round hatch moved to the bow, Boonedox landing gear. Bought it used from a tournament/pro/sponsored fisherman: it has scars, but it's been maintained. Expecting maiden voyage next weekend.

World's worst fisherman here but I'll be on Jocassee in a couple weeks and I'm wondering what I should plan for this time of year?

I'm also looking to put together rod/reel/line combo for a portsmouth island trip in November if anyone has any recommendations. I have 0 surf fishing equipment at this time.

Thanks in advance.

I was bass fishing from the 'yak on Jordan Lake and caught a catfish. Dumb fish.
