You can do either.
I went single stage since I’m trying to keep the rig as stock as possible. Stayed with Toyota 045 paint color for the same reason and so it matches the arenas that aren’t being done (engine bay etc)
I was told that the FJ62 transitioned from dual to single during the run. Is this true and if so when was that transition? Thanks.

Thank you @Borrego
I’m going through withdrawals having it the body shop since April.
They should finish paint this week, they just shot the roof today.

Looks great! Super excited for you. 045 fresh is an absolutely gorgeous color. And I hear you with the withdrawals, our Cruiser has been in the shop since the first week of March getting an H55 and some other work done. I'm itching. 😩

They had few colors that transitioned to dual stage clear coat. I think it was charcoal grey Metallic, silver metallic and beige metallic (and possibly the two 2-tone options). I could be mistaken.
045 stayed single stage

Today’s installment....
Rear hatch and front valence

thought about putting OEM stripes on? Was there ever a US version FJ62LG-PNEA with any stripes or were those just all ME/JP/EMEA?

I think those were all non-US with some cases of dealer installed.
For fun I might make some vinyl stick on stuff (easy on, easy off Reusable) with a fake safari company logo on the doors/hood and safari patrol lettering. Wife probably will sh*tcan that idea. I’d only use those for local car shows, charity events.

If the FJ6X 045 is a single stage paint, what do we do about touch-up pens? They seem to be base paint only so you'd have to apply the clear coat, risking that it may not match the single stage. Or are there good single stage touch up paints?

Good question. I have no idea. I’ll ask the guys at the shop. Hoping it’s finished soon.

so I ordered the touch up paint from the dealer and the guy stated that it looks like it is single stage BECAUSE, the others come in <PAINT CODE>BC, and the 045 did not have the BC at the end. He stated that BC is Base Coat.

Definitely ask and see if this make sense.

I dropped by but forgot to ask about your question.
i did get to see the latest status.
Getting crazy close to being finished, should be fully reassembled by Tues but we may have a delay in window tint (Im Replacing the windshield and rear hatch which are both tinted)

And on the paint question, this thread concurs with my thought that it was single stage.

Wife said she needed XM on long road trips.
Put in a Pioneer AVH based on comments from other mudders
Easy to install and apple car play is the best
It’s also nice to have hands free phone capability.
While I was at it I replaced the rear speakers. Would have done the fronts but haven’t found one shallow enough to miss the window mechanism and I want to keep the stock grill guards.

@EscapeWagon62 now that you have had the Pioneer head unit for a year plus now - what do you think ? Worth it? Would you swap it for something different? In the market right now. Thanks!!

Very happy with the Pioneer setup. Easy install, great fit with zero modification to the dash valence, works perfectly.

Wireless Car Play?
It does not do Apple Car Play wirelessly, only plugged in.
im not really an audiophile. Just needed Bluetooth and XM radio.
Chose this unit based on some recommendations here on the forum primarily on fit, cost and the features I mentioned above.

Ok, my rig is back from the body shop. These guys were so excited to e working on a classic for a change.
What I originally wanted to do was repaint the drivers door and hood.
Ultimately I needed up:
- did a doors off, windows out paint in single stage 045
- door jambs painted
- forward part of dash (defroster area) painted
- All wiper arms painted
- every panel was Stripped, skim coated, painted inside, cabin side and outside
- a couple areas of rust were cut out and new metal put in (around the front windshield, glad they found that)
- New windshield,
- new gaskets for the windshield tailgate glass
- new gaskets on the entire rear liftgate
- rain gutter stripped, self leveling sealant added and new chrome strip all around
- new land cruiser, 4WD badges and new door handles
- Rubberized anti chip paint on front and rear subframes
- Rubberized undercoating in all 4 wheel wells
- New A/C condenser
- New marker lights
- new hood stops, and hood bumpers
- new (to me) lower window chrome (which I polished before bringing down tot the shop)
- I have a new grill and headlight buckets inbound

I’m probably forgetting a few things. It was fun as they tore it apart, they sent me parts request and delivering them so I could see the progress.

They really took a lot of pride in their craftsmanship and I’ll go back in a week or two to buy them all Pizza and take a group photo.
