40 dashes are unique in that they obviously pre-date modern technology. Like running water and electricity and telecommunications music machines and mobile fluid carting devices.

I have debated how to hold my mobile phone for GPS without destroying the look of that beautiful pressed Toyoda steel.

Also where to put a cup holder for when my primary cup holder is absent :princess:.

Lastly where to mount a single speaker. Was considering buying a mobile rechargeable one and hanging it somewhere.

I prefer design over function - hence the lack of equipment so far. Please post up your dashes and how you've combated this!

Not exactly what you can do ... but... it fits me

Cup holder (dual cup capacity)

Single speaker (splashing cool sounds at your face)

iPhone holder

Handy winch bag holder

First aid kit

Pen and pencil tray (usually has also a 10mm wrench handy in there as well)

Various small accessories

I got way too much stuff :meh:

What the heck is going on here? My OCD is starting to flare just looking at these pictures...

@JohnnyC, that dash has got character, there is no doubt...

calling @pngunme. I can't get to my rigs for a couple of days.

Damn fine thread @cult45. We'll show those 80 guys a thing or two!:hillbilly:

I go frugal (or brutaal for my Dutch friends)...

  1. Speakers - I use my iphone for music and audio books... I use bluetooth ear buds when driving at highways speeds and bluetooth speakers (mine are orange and my Wife found a great bargain on a pair) when driving slow, off road. The speakers are suction cup mounted to my windshield/windscreen.
  2. Cup holder - I don't drink anything out of a cup - I'm a water and soda pop drinker, by the bottle... I use a molle mounted, drawstring bottle holder, like this. It's mounted to my door, just below the window... I used a self-tapping screw to mount a 3" Blackhawk SpeedClip
  3. Phone Mount - I use an air-vent mount, but am not satisfied with it - I'm going to replace it with the one @JohnVee showed above.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

In @HENDOG 's 45, I pulled out the 6mm bolt at the top of the B pillar and attached a 2" rubber pipe cap, open side out. Easily accepts a rechargeable Bluetooth speaker.

I piggybacked on the holes for his dash-mounted hi-lo shifter to make him a holder for the iPhone. There are picks in his thread.

The most appropriate cup holder for a 40 is a roll of duct tape sitting on the transmission hump.

I have a large speaker magnet and a 2F water pump pulley on mine. Holds my Double Gulp just fine.:hillbilly:

The transmission hump is fine if you like hot drinks... I like mine cold and it's pretty hot down there.

Well, I'm hoping it will be cooler with my heaters removed and the floor/firewall insulated.

It's called spending too much time reading the "Definitive PO Collection Volumes 1-79" in a single bound hardcover ... I obsess over how great the book is and how smart the PO's mindset is ... PO's are frugal and largely misunderstood by Current O's or as described in the book ... CO's or OP's as most current owners like to use posts as a means of relaying information

We need to understand that we are all a transfer of pink slip away from becoming a PO and should embrace your innermost PO

:)

A must read is "Volume 80: Embodying the PO Mentality; Bondo, Duct Tape, and Neglect. Because a CO is Only Temporary." I have only found it in paperback though

I do like the things you've added, looks very utilitarian. Things are where they are because that's where you need them, I'm sure if people drove their 40's as much as you they would have their own custom touches.:steer:

Before I upgraded my phone I had this setup which worked well for the GPS enabled smart phone. There is a magnet on the back of the phone that sticks to the case and then sticks to the knob on the dash (which is mounted via strong double sided tape but can be easily removed). Nite Ize Steelie Car Phone Mount Kit for Cellphones, Magnetic Dash Mount https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BAQKRHY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2kpaybT09GT29

I have a Tuffy center console for my BT head unit and I have an amp and 4 speakers/8" sub under the driver seat for tunes.

RAM mount for the phone. a little pricey yes but made in the USA and it works amazingly well.
the cup holder that someone on here makes for attaching to the seat bracket is on my wish list. best solution ive seen yet.
music situation is in constant evolution. not sure what the next step is yet.

This thread should be renamed the "definitive too lazy to search for hundreds of other posts on the same topics" thread.

I have been pretty happy with my setup. My dash was pretty cracked, so I cut it up and recovered it and made a cutout for my cell to sit. U just drop it in its slot. Typically I use my phone for GPS and my tablet for live engine data.

Tablet mount is mounted where sun visor would be mounted off of roll cage.
