Swapping a VW into a 1st gen IFS 4 runner (2 Viewers)

Can anyone help me with what this blue connector goes to? I'm thinking it was the cruise control control.

It attaches right by the clutch bypass switch on the upper left hand side of the dash by the cluster

I'm finding two connectors that look like that, but it's not labeled blue. Note that the connectors labeled A1 below appear to be the same.

The first is labeled Auto Antenna. Five wires ...
2= R-G
3= R-G
5= LG-W
6= W-B
7= LG

The second has to do with the radio and horn (A1).
5= G-W

The third is also the horn (A1).
5= G-O on the male side
5= G-W on the female side

The fourth is headlights (A1).
6= R-W

The fifth is Emission Control (A1).
1= B-Y
2= Y
4= L-R
7= Y-W (male end) Y (female end)

That plug on the left looks identical. Could likely be emissions controls as I don't remember unplugging this one from the donor rig when I pulled the harness to install into my tdi rig. The emissions stuff was likely ditched many many years ago.

The head lights (drivers side anyway) and radio are working with this unplugged. No power antenna on the donor rig(any more at least) and I've not tried the horn.

The donor rig for the harness doesn't have power windows but that doesn't mean it won't have the provisions for it in the wiring harness.


The harness is out of a 1987 rig (made in 86 22re 5speed)



I'm currently in the wiring phase of the project. This is the fun part. I'd almost rather be doing body work.

This is the only plug I dont have a match for other than the few unused ones by the hvac system and by the radio.

I'm sure I'll find a few between the seats too.

AC compressor and tensioner bracket is finished. Now time to get started on wiring and rear drive shaft. I'll have to wait on the rain to end before I can do that.

Ran into a little snag. The little lady's disco 2 has once again thwarted me 4 runner wrenching plans. It's had a slight head gasket coolant leak since we got it in July. Its a daily driver so we have just added coolant daily, usually a cup or two. Well the levy broke the day before Xmas eve. I have a parts disco 2 with 80k I had planned to steal the heads from and have then rebuilt before install. Having it hit this weekend puts me in a bind so I broke out the old school tractor repair methods. I removed the heads (aluminum) and used a concrete block to true them up to sub .002. Real pain in the rear. They were not bad, just the ends of the headgasket leaking externally. Very common rover issue.

I have a friend that is dealing with the same issue but he isn't really in to wrenching. He loves the look and comfort. But everything comes with a price.

They do look cool. The room of an fj60 in a much smoother ride. Even with a 3 to 4 inch lift. More power thanks to the light but torqy aluminum v8. About the same mpg. The land cruiser is for responsible off road enthusiasts. The disco was made for people who need more chaos in their life.

Oh you need to get up this hill??? 3 amigos warning light activated for no good reason out of no where...better call a friend with a tow strap! You just lost traction control!

Well if you are young and want to learn offroading and how to work on vehicles. A disco is a good cheap place to start. Learn a lot and young enough to have a flexible schedule.

It wasn't too long ago you could buy a 60 for sub 3500 and drive it home. The cruisers didn't have the same 75% depreciation within 2 years of ownership. Many of the 03 disco 2 models didn't make it to 90.000 miles before the oil pump stopped working.

Parts cars were 500 or less, now they are almost all 2k or more. Running and driving usually people ask for 5k or better but they maybe negotiated down for the actual sale i suppose.
