Not attached yet, just resting in place. Still need to clean up my cuts on the abs plastic sheet I used to fill the gaps between the VW insturment panel and 4 runner dash. It is angled up a bit more slightly than stock which points from the dash nearly perpencdiclar to the the floor. I'm 6ft 2 and feel these trucks were set up for sub 5ft 10 people. I want it pointing at my face rather then neck/chest area.

Tabs are epoxied onto each side to screw the glass and adapter ring in place. The cluster will bolt where the oem one bolted in most likely

Nothing is bolted in yet, this is how she looks sitting in place.

Now i have to remove the cluster and send it along with the ecu and choice parts of the wiring harness to fast in Canada. They will handle the tune and make a custom harness for it.

They need the cluster so it won't light up like a Christmas tree when I plug it in. I won't have seat belt sensors, abs, proper low brake fluid/coolant/wiper fluid sensors, traction control, seat belt/door/air bag sensors and on and on. Without the proper mods id have 2 dozen warning, abs and cel lights on.

The little lady says the cluster doesn't match the dash because they look like they are from different time periods. I offered to let her buy me a nice tach equipped 1st gen working/tested cluster but she declined.

I hope the mpg calculator will continue working on it.

Should have asked the lady for dekota digital version....you know from the same time period ha.

How much does it cost for that service to clean up the bells and whistles?

Im not sure yet, my glow plug wires are shot so that will add some. With all the tune work probably around the 1500 range. The harness they send back will make wiring an easy step by step process.

Id do the wiring mod work myself but I dont have the spare time. Spring is almost here, I need to get the outdrive off the boat to install a new gimball and bellows. As soon as we have a weekend in the 70s I'm back on the lake every weekend. I'll have more day light during the week but whatever isn't done April may have to wait until next fall to start back.

Fast forward automotive in Canada is who im using for the tune and harness work if anyone is wondering. They make the harness a simple ordeal, something most likely like an ls1 chevy stand alone harness. You need enough knowledge to grasp the basics to put a few wires where they ground or pos etc.

Being my 4runner came as an autotragic i have to wiring in a start relay with the clutch pedal switch.

cool I heard about someone in the vendor section that specializes in that sort of thing for 1uz, 2uz an 3uz engines. def makes repowering easier to swallow as that seems like a huge time suck.

The bhw engine side harness is pretty simple. The pedal is where it gets tricky for me. I specialize in 12v systems repair in outdoor power equipment. If i were doing the wiring myself i would NOT be using the passat cluster, id use aftermarket gauges or a stock 4runner cluster. Fooling the ecu and cluster into seeing stuff that isn't existsnt isn't in my ability. I can cover little warning lights with black tape or better yet remove the bulb but the passat has a little digital read out center that likes to tell you what's wrong. She beeps when the temps drop below 40!

Wiring harness is on its way to BC Canada.

The wiring on my 4runner is pretty jacked. I purchased a wiring harness for a 1975 Chevy pick up truck with power windows and air conditioning. I will be putting in new wiring from tail light to headlight, removing nearly all 4runner wiring in the process. No need for any most if it. I have electric window doors on a non electric door vehicle(somehow)

I will be adapting the 4runner column controls to the GM harness. I plan on upgrading to hid headlights, all led light bulbs everywhere else. Rain all weekend so no work updates. I need to order some tires to get this truck rolled all the way under the carport so I can get more work done during our cold rainy winters. This will be a daily driver so good headlights are a must, i want the deer to be blind when I hit it at 45 mph.

Any suggestions for hid lights? I am keeping square headlights unless someoene knows if I can toss in early pickup fenders and grill/headlight bezels to run some sweet round ones. Call me impartial but I think the 60s/40s got most if their character from those sweet round lights....and upside down bezel for your cog if you have a 40

A-hem. Upside down bezel? I don't think so.

I put round headlights on my 80 and the pickup is round too. I am sure you can make it happen.

I like the round version of these and would def recommend

Uncut engine wiring harness that i sent to Canada along with cluster and ecu. Also included are the required parts of cluster harnesses. They have one harness ahead of me. I am getting new glow plug boots, these were falling apart. I hope to have it back in about 2 weeks.

Not much to add pic wise but my wiring harness and retuned/immobilized ecu have arrived along with my engine adapter.

I pulled the oil pan on the BHW hoping to find a geared balance shaft but it's sadly chained. I will be deleting that soon as well as installing a lower profile oil pan.

Work on the 4runner has slowed as I'm getting the boat ready for spring launch, takes forever to clean and wax the thing.

I just got in my lower profile oil pan, balance shaft delete parts and timing belt/water pump kit.

Due to time constraints I didn't get pics of the balance shaft removal. Right now I'm working on tapping the block to install an oil passage block off set screw.

Pretty successful day. Last night my crap 1/8 npt tap wouldnt have put usable threads in warm butter. I brought home a tap from work and smooth sailing, for the most part.

My new oil pan is much much lower profile, the oil pick up is hitting.

So either the parts supplier sent the wrong oil pick up or im stuck modifying if I can't get a bolt in solution.

My new timing belt is installed along with new metal impeller water pump.

Took some digging but the company I ordered from(you'd think they'd know vw???) Sent me the 1.8t passat (98 to 2005) oil pickup tube that fits my ALH oil pump. What I needed was an actual ALH oil pump pick up tube that also matches what both the ALH pump and my lower profile pan would have come with in a factory tdi golf/jetta/beetle.

So no oil pickup tube mods needed, just a proper 40 dollar OEM part. Less than 25 after market but I went with oem, just in case. Id hate to lose a motor because I wanted to save 15 bucks.

Heres the hunk of junk I removed and the new oil pump/chain/battle and pick up installed.

Slim oil pan vs stock passat. Nearly same oil capacity but I can change oil without dumping it on the diff and most likely clear with no oil pan mods on 2 inch body lift. Fingers crossed. Oil pans always get in my way on yota diesel swaps.
