I removed one coilover mount and I started mocking new lower shock and sway bar tabs. I have the cardboard template made for the right tower and I’ll fab that next weekend.

I am about 3 weeks behind you on this so keep going. . looks great

I am about 6 months behind you on the body so maybe we will finish around the same time. 😂
I will be on the trail Mid June . Hopefully much sooner to work out the kinks. But come June its Going !

It looks like this setup will clear the frame though I am getting into some tight space for the coilover between my axle and where I think the tire will be (1” roughly). I threw away my junk shocks months ago and I’m just guessing at this point, which isn’t the best idea. Im stuck so I will be ordering tires and coilovers so that I can make sure to fabricate my brackets correctly. I am also picking up my brothers junk tub so that I can get a better idea for where the tires will be. I’ll be on pause for a month.

What tires are you running and would you recommend them? Why or why not?

I am looking for 4 40 x 13.5 x 17 tires and I would like to stay under $600/per tire. I would like something that grabs the rocks like a competition tire, tracks down the highway nicely and isn’t overly loud (like my Goodyear MTRs from 2005). It would be nice if the tires lasted 25-30K miles and were radials. I am considering between the Goodyear MTRs or Pro-Comp Xtreme MT2 as they are both under $500 per tire at Discount Tire and both seem to have good reviews. I really wanted to try the Maxxis Trepedor (yes, the bias ply tire) or the Maxxis Razar (radials), but they are a bit pricy for something that I will beat up in the rocks.

I have run quite a few different tires over the years, from Super Swamper Boggers, TSL SX, Thornbirds (never buy those), Goodyear MTR, Good-wrench A/T and mud, to a number of Cooper snow tires. I’ve always used Maxxis tires for my mountain bike and I love them. I haven’t been on the trail in about 8+ years and the tire game, as you all know, has completely changed. Please let me know what you are running and how you like them. Let me know if you have a used set of tires near Colorado, or if you know of a vendor that has a sale.

Thanks in advance!
-Mike

So i have a set of the Maxxis Razr in 40 -13.5-17. and they worked really well on the Rubicon . That is all i have had them on . I personally am not a big fan of the squared shoulder look and like a more rounded looking tire , so i am thinking of getting Iroks ( have had them on many rigs and they worked great ) or the Mickey Thompson Baja x. ( look Mean ) Or another set of BFG reds ( worked great but Crack and not streetable ) STT Pros are also a good tire I run those on my FJc

@Firemedic831, let me know if you are interested in selling the Razr tires. It's a slim chance that we could make something work between Denver and Oregon, but who knows.

Are these the Baja X tires that you are referring to? Mickey Thompson 40x13.50R17LT Tire, Baja Boss X (42703) - 90000038404 - https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/mickey-thompson-40x13-50r17lt-tire-baja-boss-x-42703-90000038404/_/R-BFLW-90000038404?ppcfon=1&gp=1&ecmp=s:google_18700523179___&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=SC%20Shopping%20-%20Low%20&%20Margin%20-%20Performance%20Max&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjSi39roqQNkoJ82yqP7ehyRv9UlTdjbFKWVa71NpJtwLLIqtoaNYU0aArcYEALw_wcB

My TSL SX tires were rounded and my Cruiser felt like it always wanted to tip over, and that was using 35 x 15.5 tires on 15" wheels. I've always wanted to try the Iroks but I decided a long time ago to try different brands after using three types of Swampers.

No those are the Baja Boss i have those also but in 35 inch . I want the Baja Pro X This 40 will not really be street driven .

You might try the Milestar Patagonia tires. @woody runs them on his buggy and they work great
Testing their new MT02 sticky now...need more time in them, but promising ...and NOT $1200ea for 42s.... lol

#orangecrush

The MT02 42 DOT is $600ea retail. I'm on my 2nd set with hard wheeling and zero complaints.
