I was thinking about it, and due to the shortage of aftermarket support, if I designed a custom tank for the cruiser would anyone else be interested in one?

Obviously price would need to be detirmined, but that would be after I get my first tank finished.

In regards to the specs I was thinking:

.090 wall 5052 aluminum construction
Tig welded seams
30-40 gal capacity
Fully baffled with design based on wheeling situations
custom features available

I have to do a new diesel tank too. Lets put our heads together. You can sell them and make the money, I just want a design.

I have been going over some designs while at work, I just need to get some dimensions off of the truck before I can go any further.

Anyone know off hand the space between the framerails at the rear of the frame and the from the shock mount back?
 
I was able to box in the mount on the axle for the traction bar today and got the shock mounts in for the rear axle as well.

I will wait for some forklift flexing before I get the bumpstops and limit straps in on the rear axle.

I also did some mock up for the intercooler piping, thanks to Klinedog I have enough tubing to get it all done once I mount up the intercooler.

The list is slowly getting smaller.

Things to do:

Install fuel tank (Custom tank in the works)
Box rear framerails
[STRIKE]Anti-wrap bar[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Rear shocks[/STRIKE]
Rear brake lines
Clutch line
Modify transmission crossmember to clear front driveshaft
Install front driveshaft
Change fuel filter and install fuel lines
[STRIKE]Intake[/STRIKE]
Exhaust
Turbo Piping
Hood struts and reinstall hood
Change oil and check fluids
Tranfercase linkages
Remove E-brake cable
Trim driver side fender
Install bumpstops
Install limit straps

Earlier today I got a call from the shop my gas tank is at. Apparently once they actually looked at my tank, there was just a slight leak on one of the inlet tubes.

They pressure tested it, and washed it and it had no other leaks, so I will be reinstalling this tank with the idea of building a custom tank to swap into the truck in the future.

Getting closer. I know you threw out some numbers earlier in the thread, but what do you think your horsepower and torque will be again? How many pounds of pressure does your clutch have?

I'm guessing with the fueling mods and compressor and intercooler upgrades my hp will be somewhere near 300, and torque on I-6 diesels is typically twice the horsepower so around 600Ft-lbs.

Not sure about the specs of the clutch. All I know is that the transmission was out of a sled pulling truck project. Its apparently a 4 button single disc race clutch.
I have no idea how it will perform yet.

Rev up the motor and DUMP the clutch!!

Are you planning on wheeling this truck? I can tell you from personal experience that it will wear you out if you have a super stiff pressure plate. I have a Marlin Crawler HD clutch in my mini which is rated at 1600lbs for the pressure plate. The factory is like 800-900lbs so it's basically double. On long rides or if I'm having to go on/off the clutch a lot it can really tire you out. Having all the torque (and proper gearing) hopefully you will be able to just put it in gear and roll over everything.

Last night I was able to get the intercooler mounted.
I just need to cut some holes in the front of the engine bay and run my piping.

The lower tubing will help locate and secure the bottom of the intercooler.

I also started on the driver side fender but realized I needed to bring the sawzall.

Whipper snapper! J/K. I'm "only" 31 so I feel ya. It's not terrible to have the strong pressure plate. Most of the time when I'm riding I just drop it into gear and use the skinny or let it roll over stuff. I have a crappy 4 speed and stock transfer case in my truck (right now anyway, in the process of rebuilding a 5 speed and building a doubler) so it takes a little more... finesse sometimes. :steer:

Thanks for the recommendations. I will have to look into that some more.

Yesterday I focused on wiring for the motor and systems and completed about 95% of it.
I was able to tie everything into the old wiring harness.
I am now able to start the motor up using the Toyota key and I have to say it feels really good. :D

Hey man, could you go into a bit more detail with the wiring aspect of this build? I've got the charging system down ( external voltage regulator via http://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-ram/303000-diy-external-voltage-regulator-conversion.html ) and I've got the starter figured out ( http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/solenoid.htm ) but where did you tap into the wiring harness to get ignition power for the shutdown solenoid? Did you wire your starter with a solenoid like this guide?

A bit more clarification, and maybe a pic or two, would be excellent :D

Any 12 volt ignition on hot wire will do for the fuel solenoid.

When I first wired in the fuel cut off solenoid I found a 12v switched source that ended up having enough residual voltage that it kept my engine running. I ended up using the coil wire, and I haven't had any issues. Mine coil wire is brown in the toyota harness.
