I need help! I have been searching the world for instructions on the Ruff Stuff 40 to 60 axle swap SOA kit and I cannot find anything. Ruff stuff is not too helpful. I want to confirm I am welding the frame widening platforms correctly. Does anyone know of a video or have pics of a completed project? Thanks!

Pics of my current state of affairs and piles of new parts.

What springs are you using? Theres no “right way”, too many variables based on how you set it up.

Here is how i originally set mine up, shackle reversed with rear FJ60 springs up front. It ended up being too high and i put the shackle through the frame. May not be an issue if you are using shorter leaf springs.

There is a metric s*** pile of information on MUD and Pirate to give you guidance. You just have to spend hours and hours reading and searching. I had a word file that had hundreds of links, photos, and info saved for each aspect of my build (lost in a hard drive crash).

I’m using 60 springs and keeping the shackle forward. I have the length and width measurements covered. The confusing part is exactly how the frame widening perch’s get welded on and in what order do I weld up everything.
I know they do not mount where you are drilling ;)
thats my son cutting off the old…

Im confused how you can be confused.

You need to post photos with specific questions, not blanket “how do i’s” that ignore the 30 steps required to get from A to B.

I just got the frame widening perches today. Did you do this swap?
Well I bought that exact kit 3 years ago and its still laying in the exact same spot . I was unsure how it went together as well when i got it . I ended up Linking my 40 instead .

Figure out how far forward you want the axle to sit. Tack on the front mounts. Measure your springs center of eye to center of eye. Use that same distance and tack your outboard mounts on. Pull measurements to make sure everything is square. Mock the axle up and put the weight of the truck on it to make sure your shackle angle is where you desire.

I hate to say it, but if you can not figure it out, this job may be a bit too much for you and you might want to get someone else to do it for you. Do not forget you will need to do a cut and turn on the front axle as well. That is another can of worms.

When I put 60 axles on my troopie I offset the hangers the amount I wanted and then made a gusset plate to support the hanger. I can probably add a pic when I find them. I did a SR though.

SR pics still help. Just want to see it all welded up.

My concern is that I tack things together then realized I have to cut it all off again to actually weld the small pieces

I’m having the turn done at a shop. This kit comes with nothing. No instructions no pics no videos. My specific question is do you know of a pic or video. If you don’t then you’re not helping. Sure I can figure it out but boy it would be helpful if someone else who knew how to do this job had a pic or a video. Do you?

It’s too late for me. I already cut off all the old mounts and rivets.

I had to do shackles through the frame as well. Makes for some funky shackles. It was still taller than I wanted so ended up doing SUA with some rear 60 series OME springs up front for the added length.

Lots of applicable pics in the first link in my first post. Even though it is shackle reversal, the outboarding is essentially the same regardless if it is for a spring hanger or shackle hanger. Click the link to Pirate4x4 Asian Mistress build thread. Lots of photos on page 4, which is the page the link takes you to.
