1970 FJ 40 axle shaft

While trying to cut off the bearing race I nicked the machined surface of my axle shaft and several of the grooves are now flat. Should I toss it?

Assuming you are talking about the rear axle shaft, smooth out any burrs and install a new bearing race.

Yes the rear. There are no burrs just some nicks in the machining near where the race rode but not under the race. Still good to go?

Well, depends how bad the nick is IMHO. Nicks can become a stress concentator

OK thank you! Just flattened out a couple of the grooves but no more.

Under the race not an issue as new race will cover it, although the comment regarding a stress point for failure is true, the axles are fairly robust at that section.
