MetalTech

Been trying to get a set of Metaltech's for a while now but they are out of stock. John over at Metaltech says they are going through a re-design. That new design was supposed to be ready beginning of Oct but they havent even broke ground on it yet :(

So I have been looking around at all of the options posted here and not posted here on this forum. For me to order sliders from any of the shops, (to Tulsa, Ok) it will cost me over $100 on shopping alone. I contacted a local shop to ask if they ship in sliders, or if they build. They said that they build the sliders however the customer wants it. Which is perfect for me, but the only problem is that they weld them on. Would any of Y'all see anything wrong with the sliders welded on? Any opinions help. If I use the shop I would be saving money which I know isn't always the best way to go.

Here's. The way I view it: I don't want my Sliders welded on because I would like the option to remove them. What if you want to repaint? What if you need body work done? Plus most guys up in Tulsa are building Sliders for the Disney off-road area most likely. Weld on will just be overkill.

Also yes you can probably save $100 or so by having a local shop build them, but by ordering from metal tech or Slee or similar, you are supporting the Cruiser community. Which may not sound like much, but at the end of e day it's what keeps these shops that support our great hobby alive!

Howdy from a fellow Oklahoman

x2, If you don't go with Slee, Metaltech, etc, make them yourself! ;) But definitely don't weld them on!

I am happy to go with the well known brands, anyone in the Midwest happy to share how much shipping for their sliders were?

Ok so I'm getting somewhere now! I have narrowed it down to white knuckle ($580 or $620 depending on HREW or DOM) and BIOR ($575 not powder coated).
1. Anybody upset with HREW and not Dom?
2. Anybody actually have a picture of BIOR with the kickout installed?
3. Is installation on both just as easy as "bolt on" or is drilling the frame involved.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to fully understand the products before spending over half a G for them.

Just to clarify. A pic of the BIOR tube sliders. Not step sliders

The WK sliders are bolt on only, at least for my non AHC LC. No drilling required.

Heads up: I remember a post here on mud regarding gap in slider (too lazy to search for). For that poster, gap allowed foot to get trapped when used as step to enter/exit rig. Possible medical issue (broken ?) with gaps if too wide (for children too). may want to consider...I know I will.

BTW: same condition exists with kitchen oven handles/wrists. Especially with the bling commercial like residential ovens because doors are heavy.

Yep. There are a handful of sliders that fall into that category. Most that have the issue, are at the back where it kicks out. I had a set of TrailGear sliders on an FJC, and the gap was pretty big end to end. I "fixed" it with a couple mtn bike tires and adhesive.

I ordered from cruisinoffroad. I asked about custom sliders and they gladly worked with me. I wanted something like the metaltech slidery. In the end I actually ordered their step sliders because of my kids and the likelihood of me not wheeling serious black diamond trails. Try them.

After having the traditional style sliders on my 80, I'm a big fan of the fully plated step slider. Unplatted sliders can be very difficult and dangerous for people in the second and third rows getting in and out. I also found the step slider a better fit for getting items on and off the roof rack. I don't see any difference in ground clearance because the main support of the slider is still in the same location. The only difference is the outside bar is flat vs angled up.

I called metal tech today and they told me that the 100 series sliders from metal tech have been discontinued. If you are still waiting, looks like you might need to move on

Whaaaaat?! They're seriously not making any more 100 series sliders of any style? I thought there were plans in the works for a design? I don't understand why they would make that decision...It seems like they would lose a relatively large financially opportunity by removing us as a client base for sliders. But that's just my $0.02....
