Any advice from fellow members is appreciated on listing my 1995 Land Cruiser FZJ80, a rust-free, reliable workhorse located in Houston? Dealer-installed supercharger has helped haul a 34’ Airstream and gotten me through some tricky merge maneuvers on the highway.

I feel conflicted posting this. The ih8mud forums have been a lifesaver for me (thanks, friends!) since buying this 80 Series beast from the original owner in Houston in 2001. But an impending overseas move means I can no longer put it off.

We are going to need more info and pictures (interior, exterior, undercarriage, engine bay etc.). And you're still going to get conflicting info.

Put it on the 'mud classifieds with an honest description and tons of pictures, especially the rust free underside.

If it is mint, put it on BAT. Land Cruisers seem to sell for mad money on there.

I sold my TRD supercharged 80 on eBay years ago and wouldn't recommend that. I don't think there are as many knowledgeable buyers on there.

I LOVED the rig with the supercharger, it really woke the rig up. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the advice, friends. Here are some photos of my rig, as suggested. It runs like an Abrams tank, has about 249,500 miles. The Supercharger and towing hookup enabled us to haul a 32-foot Airstream trailer from Tucson to Houston. I appreciate the suggestions on where to list my rig sale. Can anyone recommend a sale price that makes sense in the current market?

The forum’s 5-image limit, while reasonable, prevents me from attaching the 20 additional images I’d like to include. Any suggestions on how to share those? Much obliged.

do you mind just explaining what the towing hookup involves? i'd kind of like to get set up to tow or i wouldn't ask. also maybe helpful for a prospective buyer to know.

We put in a wiring adapter and a trailer-hitch receptacle. Photo attached. The supercharger gave us the confidence to use it to tow something as big as the 32’ Airstream.

thanks for this. i've been meaning to get set up with a wiring harness with more functions since i have a trailer harness and a hitch.
i also looked into some kind of controller at one point.
can i just ask your opinion on trailering a 16' airstream without the supercharger?(!)
i'm trying to research this and i admit i like your setup.

You can post 5 photos at a time keep them coming. I get you have a supercharger but aside that condition is everything if you’re looking for decent money. Your undercarriage and engine bay look decent but the obvious paint and all the emblems missing is gonna hurt a sale, post up some interior shots. Price is extremely subjective and what you get for it will depend on the buyer. Lots more pics and maintenance will help with pricing. I think you will be looking at $12-15k for the little info we have. The supercharger is a great selling point and you will get a lot of lookers because of that. It’s hard to price because they don’t come up for sale very often. Price point I sold my supercharger of my truck for $6k so that gets you an idea of what they bring. Also not a MUD friendly comment but you will get a better price in other markets not saying don’t post it here just that people are more informed here and know the market better than most. Good luck with your sale.

A number of factors will come into play in considering towing a trailer with a Land Cruiser. An ih8mud thread a few years back delves into the topic in detail and may help you analyze your situation:

Best of luck.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, FJ80oregon. What you say about the factors affecting value makes a lot of sense. I will definitely take it into account in setting a price.

thanks a lot for that.
good luck with the sale.
and good luck with the move!

Here’s more towing info: Towing with a Land Cruiser is addressed at some length in the owner’s manual for my 1995 rig. I’ve attached images of the relevant pages, found in the section entitled, “Starting and Driving”.

IMHO the (poor) interior and exterior condition hurt the value tremendously. If the engine is original (not rebuilt, original head gasket), that could also hurt the value ie: anyone who knows this engine would/should factor in at least the head gasket job at some point. I would be concerned about towing the 32 foot trailer (has the ATF been replaced, sample sent off for a Blackstone report??)

For top dollar the interior including all damaged leather (steering wheel, shifter, seats) would need to be replaced including the dash/crash pad and paying someone to do that would be very expensive. The exterior would need a paint job, that would cost big money if done right. All together someone would have to spend $20,000+ for interior/exterior, then add routine maintenance another $5000, eventual Head gasket/head rework, another $5000+---.

Adds up quick. So maybe looking at a Trail rig in it's current condition??

Hard to put a number on it's value, different buyers have different tolerances for (poor) condition. Without the supercharger it's maybe a $5K truck IMHO.
Add ??3k for the (used) supercharger and you're at $8-10K ?? List it in the Classifieds here and see what offers you get (you need to state a asking price)??

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, Kernals. will take your assessment into account as I move forward. It hadn’t occurred to me to list in the ‘mud classifieds without an asking price, but I will definitely consider it.

not to be an a-hole and crap all over it the only thing going for it is the supercharger and no rust. the exterior is beyond faded, the interior is hammered.

i buy them in better condition to part out because they are too far gone to put on the road. it would cost 5 to 10K, and thats without labor, just to get that into good enough condition to be considered a good daily cruiser. its basically trail status imo. you would get more pulling the SC, selling it alone and then try to get whatever you could for the truck. my guess is 5K max.

I am not trying to be mean, just putting out facts. i can find one in much better shape needing an engine for 4 or 5 grand. spend 10K doing a complete under the hood overhaul and be in it for 15K and have a brand new engine with everything supporting like hoses and radiator done. just putting that out there for a guide.

I'm not sure if this has been said, but I think the way to go it to uninstall the supercharger then sell it separately. You'll need to source a few parts, but it is very doable. By doing this I think you can maximize your profit. Good luck out there.

She's lived a hard life. Either sell to someone who wants to continue that hard life or sell to someone who wants to restore it. Either way it's a $10k truck max IMO
