Crazy how so many dislike the headers you just swapped to, But I have had great luck with mine, thanks to your recommendations years ago!

I've never had this issue with any header style.

I put the intake on my welding table and it's way ****ed

Aight....spent the entire afternoon on this thing working on the tune. Trying to eek some power out but it seems like the stock dissy is not advancing. It drives smooth but it does not have a lot of pick up which feels like a dead dissy.

I sent him home with it. He's used to it being this way as it was the same before it arrived.

I'll likely toss a DUI on it next trip up.

Wizards 3rd trip up on this one.

Don't do a dui. Do a recurve on the stock one. @roadstr6 figured out which springs to use to diy it.

I have about 50 trucks I've built since 2020 when I went full time and I've had one DUI igniter go bad. All the rest are 100%

Memphis built DUI. None of the other Chinese hei stuff.

It's simple and it works. Lots and lots of old s*** goes away.

There must have been a bad batch of DUI's lately. One of our club members had the exact same situation as yours. Brand new DUI did not advance.

So the Sawbones 60 started hiccuping on him between first and second so I dropped by and picked it up today.

I had sent an email to JimC for some advice last week and I got this email back. Food for thought. Figured I'd make sure this new head was making proper compression. Plugs looked good and check vacuum

Compression is great for a non rebuilt original 2F
IMG_0966.webp

Plugs are new. Only about 75 miles on them.

Good.

Vacuum is perfect and steady

With the pedal to the floor the linkage get it to the WOT stop.

Valves checked twice. Fuel in the window. I blew out the fuel lines and added a new filter

Added a DUI and timed it.

Starts perfect. No hiccup. Idles great. Smooth as silk. Drives great.

Still crappy power.

Maybe I'm just wishing too much on a stock motor in a built 60 with H55 and 3.70s.

That last comment in @FJ40Jim comment about getting a new camshaft though has me perplexed.

What size and kind of tires?

Can you get it to 70 and stay there with no problems other than it slow to get there?

If yes, I think it’s fine with the compression and vacuum.
Some might think 19 is a little low but the manual says 15 something minimum.

It's got some whopper 305s on it. Big and wide.

It will hold 70 no problem.

What could be done to make the vacuum reading higher? I honestly don't know anything about it.

What's odd, is my 60 has pretty much exactly the same 'symptoms'....starting, idling and low range power/pick up seem perfect. Trying to get any acceleration at highway speed? Forget it....like there is a wall and the pedal seems like it's hitting a wall so I'm going to investigate if there's a linkage issue. She also is still doing light backfires during deceleration/engine breaking....and an occasional post shutdown diesel.

Check your timing. Diesel sounds like it may be too high.

The carb base has a place built into it that stops the throttle at wide open. It's a little ridge.

Put a broom handle on your pedal to the floor then see if you can push it a bit further with your hand to that stop. If so. Adjust linkage.

We started using a Draggy here for issues like this and it’s been super useful to have actual acceleration data vs seat of the pants feeling

Camshaft can be worn leading to lower valve lift. Timing gear can be worn leading to slow valve timing. Or both

If the vacuum is low, it’s typically a vacuum leak. However, if it’s high in miles and worn out, that can cause low vacuum. But, your compression numbers look good. You could try looking for vacuum leaks again and just verify that. If all of that’s good, 19 might be all you can get.

You might have fixed the slight hesitation with the DUI if the other distributor was worn out. You taken it for a drive to test it?

If the Aisin carb still being used, could try the paper clip trick to make sure the 2nd barrel is kicking in.

Yeah I fixed the hiccup. It really runs great and if you hear the video it sounds great too.

I was under the impression the vacuum gauge would be hopping around if there was a vacuum leak. I just bought this fancy gauge. Usually I use carb cleaner.

I think you are good then.
It’s going to be a little slow with big tires and weight, and 3.70 gears, even with the h55. I think everyone likes the h55 with 4.11’s or lower with bigger tires.

Would also double check to make sure the two linkage rods to the carb somehow didn’t get reversed, especially if some work was done elsewhere before getting back to you.
