spendimg next week over the forth there, still not much open, snowpack still deep on high passes. Not expecting much believe huge rock slide plus snow on engineer to Poughkeepsie, cinnamon still buried. Animas forks has huge slide. Working on corkscrew. I’m blast through on govenor see how far back can make it. Probably be some good summer sking still in august

Ok everyone, final post about this bumper. I have a straight FJ60 stock front bumper with end caps. It is currently painted with black plasti-dip which is easy to remove. No rust, chrome is good. I can bring it to SAS#3 and I would like $50 for it. If anyone wants it , PM me. Thanks, .

I've been stressing about something....

I'm driving the truck from Texas. The combo is solid and proven. I've done the 2500 mile round trip with 5 days of trails in CO September last year and I made it back without issue. Currently at 313,000 miles and the 2F runs great. It's currently OME Heavy/Heavy, H55F/3.70 open/open and aside from it not feeling comfy in 2nd gear/4low, I've not had anything that it wouldn't do....I ran trails last year with a broken motor mount causing the transfer case to pop out of gear and still did ok. The winch helped...

I've got the following to do this month:

Change the oil
Check all torque values
swap to 4.11 thirds (to be open or not?!!)
Get my SOR seat foams installed
Install the 3FE alternator
Weld on used sliders



Before I make any drivetrain changes, I have to ask...are there any trails that need the use of a locker in a 60 series? Because I've got to drive it home and drive it to work, I won't do anything crazy. The more I can do to make sure it gets home safe and I don't have to stress anything..I'll do.

I've got 4.11 thirds going in and I'm getting an itchy trigger finger and I've been talking myself in and out of getting an ARB locker for the rear. Can I make it without adding the locker? I've seen that only two of the trails are Labeled Red....

The only trail where lockers will benefit you is Poughkeepsie Gultch. The wall is steep but has a winch point at the top. Other than that a locker is not really necessary.
My personal opinion is you'd be just fine without a locker.

Gearing would be much more important, along with a well tuned carb. I can't think of anything I've driven there that would have NEEDED a locker, but at the first event my 60 really struggled with the oversized tires and a carb that wasnt quite right (I couldn't even make it to the summit of Immogene).
As Casey mentioned, Poughkeepsie Gultch is one where it would be nice, but I'm pretty sure that @John McVicker made it up without one last year....

The carb has been up to 12,000 ft in Pearl pass with no issue. It surprised us all.

That helps a ton. It’s the unwillingness to change the combo before a big trip and bring it unknown variables.

Id prefer not to winch up obstacles but I don’t feel the shame

Good call. This group isn't about having the biggest baddest rigs to tear up. We have vintage Cruisers and appreciate them. Just driving cross country and hitting the trails is satisfying enough. I personally am not into trashing my things for bragging rights.

I tried Imogene last summer and failed right before the summit. Had my carb rebuilt and adjusted over the winter, but now can’t pass emissions in Denver.

There are some old'school tricks to compensate for Carb issues at altitude. The KOA will be full of some of the best Cruiser Knowledge you can think of. Instead of waiting for a response to a PM or a thread you just walk to a guys camp and get the answers you seek. It is very cool in that respect.
I can guarantee that will happen.

I ran 14 initial and the large pod on my distributor and made it to the top of of Pearl and Montezuma without issue. It never hiccuped once. I ran the best fuel I could find which was 91 and it did great.

No HAC enabled, but I'll likely steal the AC idle up solenoid and disconnect the AC Compressor. I'll run a separate vacuum line to the small pod, and control it with the AC button. I won't need the AC up there anyway. Or I could just add a tee and power both pods with the same vacuum line when I get to New Mexico.

I've been holding off reserving spots at KOA until this week, when I would know for sure if I could swing it with work. I was still able to reserve Mon-Thu, and I put in the special instructions SAS #3. If they still deem that there is enough room, hopefully I get to be by everyone else! If not, our spot is a pull through for a gigantic RV, so if anyone is stressing a spot or procrastinated like I did, let me know, because our spot allows for 2 vehicles or 4 people. I'm sure they'd be fine if two classic Cruisers were squeezed in there together.

@HemiAlex Personally unless you got the 411's for free I have always felt like its not going to make a big difference only going one step. As in 373 to 411. You need to go 2 sizes to make it worth the cost and effort. I went from 373 to 456 in my 60 with noticeable difference. If you have a free set of thirds out of a 62 you can bolt up then fine but its a lot of work set up and install for the small difference you'll see. JMHO

I paid a fair price for them and I truly only want them for downhill still. I’ve never had any hearing problems going up hill.

I’ll be pretty close in gearing to the 40’s I’ve run around with before.

Hopefully they will make it feel right.
