Were these lost seals on a loose guides? Without springs, keepers, etc., do the valves wiggle in the stem?

It looked to me like the valve seals just failed. I am not 100% sure they are actually oem seals even though I ordered the seals oem. I dont want to throw anybody under the bus but the oem ones provided in pictures looked to have more a red/brown rubber where these had a black rubber. They were sold as oem though. I could be wrong.

I have no idea on your questions though. the rubber part of the seal on those two valves were just riding up and down on the valve when I took the spring off. the brass part was still on the guide. Ill check if the valves wiggle though. I still have the head in the shed. Going to eventually take it to a machine shop.

I debated even posting this and I'm not 100% sure I'm ready to give it up but there is a chance I might go in a different direction than I originally thought. I have a NOS Hupp Model 356 that has been on my shelf for a while.

I believe we have a couple more clamshell heaters on hand actually. I need to look at our stock again, its been a bit. Whenever you are ready for that project hit me up.

I just purchased a carb insulator for the 2f from city racer. I had not realized they have them for way cheeper than most. I have been using just the base for the insulator. I dont know whaat you call it but the shield part of my old insulator was broken so I cut it all off. Heat shield?

Update on the belleview: I did get the new motor in and rigged up the brake. the winch works. The cable will be here Tuesday I have started on the winch mounting plate. I need to get my compressor in so I can plasma cut the center where the cable comes through. If I get bored waiting I maybe drill the corners of the rectangle and then use the cut off wheel.

I might paint this winch motor. I was expecting more grey in color but it came super shiny silver aluminum. also it has 4 of these threadded holes on the casing that I will put some set screws in or something.

The cheep 10 inch fairleed I bough from the fleebay. seems to be of good quality. was 40$

Here is the plate so far. its going to work just fine to mount up this belleview.

went exploring with a photography buddy of mine! he has a really cool suzuki jimny. We went exploring the south end of the island. it has lots of smaller 3-6 foot dunes that blow in from the wind. it was fun driving over them. this Jimny was like a little mountain goat. the only thing is it was an automatic. But I would love to own one of these things!

Let the mayhem begin! I have been wanting a big compressor for projects and bought one for myself for christmas. My wife helped pay for it as a gift. cant wait to wire this bad boy up!

I did some mild off roading this afternoon. figured id zip out to the beach and scout some photography spots incase it snows overnight. Its blowing 20mph and its 30 out there! I love the old school 3speed gear wine you hear! video does not do the dunes justice. between 3-6 foot dunes with some hefty drops.

I got up pretty early knowing that we would have snow on the outer banks! what we got was more than I was expecting. Yesterday was the first time I had seen some real snow build up since 2018. I even got two snow days off from teaching! Of course the Land cruiser was my weapon of choice to explore the 20mph snowy Siberian looking beach land scapes of Ocracoke island NC.

What surprised me most was just how well the fj40 does in snow. I have never driven my fj40 in snow and it was a fun experience. The snow day didn't disappoint! My only disappointment is I have not gotten any further along on my winch project.

The photo below was 6:30am gearing up to find a sunrise shot.

This makes me a little sad to see. I snagged this shot during the snow but I already knew the truck has been parked here. I think its a 1982 truck. has square headlights. Its a little beyond saving I think. the frame might be ok. the axles are probably the only thing on it that is serviceable. i mean everything can be fixed but - time or money. these are one of my dream toyotas is a 1979 - 82 toyota 4wd truck.

the story behind "officially a Vehicle" is this truck was one of the few still running vehicles after hurricane dorian (2019) where it flooded the island. I lost my 2000 4runner with 60,000 miles on it in that storm but the 1998 tacoma lived. I am 99% sure all the rust on this truck is from the flooding during the storm.

The rear rims where from a fj80 that was on the island that flooded from hurricane dorian. I took bumper trim parts and a rear hatch the same fj80 to put on my white 1991 land cruiser at the time.

Rims came from this 1991 fj80.(below) I also took parts off this cruiser for mine. (wish I had pulled the 3fe) this fj80 had been on Ocracoke for a while but only had 120,000 miles. I shot this photo when I was taking the rear liftgate. Ironically I still have my original lift gate just not the rest of the vheicle.

my old fj80! (below) I really miss this one. because my wife and i got into a roll over accident in it, she is not ready to get another. I dont blame her either. it was a great vehicle though. Still have the front grill hanging up in the house. Going to move it to my workshop shed soon.

Some actual tinkering: I finally got my carb insulator with the heat shield from city racer. Installed it in about 30 min. Looks cleaner than before. Curious if Ill see any differences with it.

This build thread might turn into a Saltwagon photography thread haha. Just kidding I have quite a few projects down the line. I picked up a new old camera and you know what that means.... photos!!!

The camera I picked up is the Nikon DF an odd and goofy camera from 2013. just like the fj40, the camera is a little odd and goofy today. I wanted this camera for the ability to shoot my old manual focus F mount nikkor lenses digitally without compromise or an adapter.

I shot these photos with my 50mm f1.2 ai (lens from the early 70s) and the new to me nikon DF.

@Roastchestnuts I’m by no means a photographer, but I mess around with my Pentax K1000 on occasion. They came with a 2.0f or 1.8F 50mm lens, but there was an optional 1.2F 50mm lens. There are lots of times I wish I had that little bit of extra aperture - sometimes in marginal or golden hour light the aperture isn’t enough so I have to slow the shutter speed way down, and well … I don’t have the steadiest hands so the results aren’t great. Or even with the slow shutter speed the results just don’t have enough exposure.

So where should I look for that 1.2f 50mm lens? I’ve occasionally poked around eBay over the years with no luck. Are there specific websites for old camera gear? I really am way out of my element here. Maybe there’s even aftermarket 1.2f 50mm K-mount lenses. Any advice?
