So If you have never been to the outer banks of NC you should check this video out that one of my photo nerd buddys did. Best part the salt wagon shows up several times in the video! I think the first one was some where around the 45 min mark. ( its a long video but lots of good photos) Thought I would share. Enjoy!

I really need a heater for my fj40! it had a hupp style one from the dealer when I got it but it was garbage and when it did work it was to loud to hold a conversation in the cab. I pulled it out a while back. does anyone have any recommendations for an aftermarket heater for early fj40s

Seems like you'd be a good candidate for a Vintage Air system that has the whole HVAC.

Or I’ll sell you my factory heater so I have an excuse to get the vintage air… 😜

I got a free heater with fan from a 17 place chevy van. I built a wood box to hold it behind my front seats. Total cost was like $15 back in 84. Once I let the rig warm up for 20 minutes with both heaters on high. The thermometer hanging on the rearview mirror said 165. I can drive around my neighborhood in 25 below zero weather with the windows down in short and a tee shirt.

This shot.
I bet a competent printer would make an amazing print with this.
Curious if the highlights held on the grill?

I wonder if you can use a blower motor resistor from a different vehicle from a salvage yard? That will allow you to operate the fan at a reasonable speed. Maybe your dealer-equipped heater core, needs chemical treatment to effectively transfer heat?
The old heater core failed in a major way so much so that it was not worth saving. but of course not before spraying hot coolant on my wives feet. needless to say that heater is no longer with us. and the housing was rusty and missing pieces. I am all about saving things but this was not worth the time and effort.

it was this style heater the lower vent thing was gone on mine and the bottom was rusted out. Had that little triangle on it though. . image stolen from this thread Early Box Heaters - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/early-box-heaters.444118/page-3

Every once in a while i see one of the clam shell ones for sale. @red66toy had one of the early clam shell ones for sale and I was super tempted. But at the time I just needed to finish other projects. I think I grabbed this photo from you chase.

I could be wrong but I thought the early fj40s like mine have a different design for the heater. I was under the impression the early ones all had hupp style heaters or the rare denso clam shell heater.

Thanks! I know I still need to print some shots from this camera! I believe the highlites are not actually blown on the file. But it is sorta easy to blow highlites with the monochrom sensor. but you can bring anything back from the shadows. Like you can have pitch black shadows and it comes back! ( f

def not blown

I know.... Honestly I have been thinking about it. I gotta get this winch done before I step into another big$$ project. and honestly some city racer 16 inch rims will probibly come first.

I believe we have a couple more clamshell heaters on hand actually. I need to look at our stock again, its been a bit. Whenever you are ready for that project hit me up.

Man, the dynamic range is amaze.

So this is the heater in the box. Has my first reloading press (old Pacific) also bolted the wood box with my first ever welding project bracket. Evap unit in the background on the back of the split bench. The wood floor is actually the box top to a folding military officers table. Had to do the pic as a selfie from the front seat.

I went with vintage air because I wanted to free up some space on the firewall. Very happy with it. It’s all pretty much contained in the unit with nothing in the engine compartment.
Not using any of the ‘67 heater blower or heater that was removed to include that plastic piece that goes from the blower to the heater and a new boot.

Nothing to report on really. I am going to hold off more on the heater. most of the time i drive it the heat from the motor kinda warms things up. Ill eventually get to that.

I have parts and tools coming from all over but unfortunutly everything keeps getting delayed! its really annoying. Infact the brake lever for the belleview got delivered to the wrong address in virginia and hopfully is back in the hands of the postoffice. the motor for the belleview has not updated on usps tracking in 3 days too. I should get a solinoid for it today. My 1/4 plate steel got here yesterday so I will start mocking up the mount maybe after work today. I did order 100 feet of 5/16th winch cable and a hook yesterday and to make things look good a new warn decal for the motor. I know the belleview will take 150 feet but I am a poor teacher so I will live with 100 feet.

another tool that I am waiting on is a 60 gallon air compressor that my wife helped me buy for a christmas gift. unfortunately freight is slow.... I ordered it on the 30th of december. says it may be here this Friday the 17th but I doubt it. I half expect the freight driver to call me and say he does not want to get on the ferry. Happens often when we order kayaks for the surf shop. Then we have a conversation about commitments they signed up for. Freight never looks at where they are delivering too...

I am excited about the compressor. I got a cheeper one hopefully its going to be nice enough for my purposes. its one of the 3.7hp 60 gallon tanks that are branded like 5 different brands. The one I got was the industrial air one because it was the cheepest. I think I can upgrade the motor in the future if I need to a 5hp one. I just wanted somthing that had at least 9cfm to run certain air tools. this one claims 11.5 cfm @90psi if I remember correctly.

It will be nice to run some air tools. I am planning getting a media blaster to do the inner wheel wells and get them nice again. I think you can find them cheep now.

I have noticed in the last few months its been drinking more oil again. briefly it seemed to stop after the valve stem seals. but then started again but worse. what i found makes this make sense. the valve seals on the intake valves on cylinder 1 and 2 had some issues. the rubber part had just been riding up and down on the valve. these were NEW oem Valve seals! I did install these and it could have been me but they seemed all good when I installed them.

I doo think valve guides are worn though. and need replacing too. the new head has new guides so thats exciting.

Were these lost seals on a loose guides? Without springs, keepers, etc., do the valves wiggle in the stem?
