Feel free to call us to go over the trans and Tcase project. Keeping the 3-speed Tcase is common and we have the parts to do it. That way we can send you a quote so you can plan ahead.
We should have a good used F valve cover with the oil filler cap if you need one.

Happy to help.

I will try and give you guys a ring soon! Might go ahead and shoot over an email. Currently not using my planning period very well for teaching haha. Seems like I would need the 1f rocker studs too and the nuts for the valve cover too. Ill shoot you guys an email this afternoon as well.

@Roastchestnuts we should have taken more time. If I don’t rebuild the f engine then the valve cover with oil fill will go to waste. Along with the studs and nuts.

That is good to know, I will have to add this to my to do list.

Looking at my valve cover someone took an old one and added the filler cap to the back of it. Why they put the cap on the back and not the front beats me.

Do you know if they replaced your oil pan?

haha I know! I could have spent all day talking land cruiser and looking at parts. Rachael would have killed me though haha. well i will keep that thought in my back pocket! because it sounds like Ill need a few more things like the nuts and studs for the valve cover too.

Nice Thanks! I am still sorting the engine out but I am going to call these guys. I am thinking I want to use the 3 speed transfercase on my 4speed since my 3speed case is in really good shape and I dont know the history of the 4 speed case. The gears in the 4speed look really good and the syncros look not worn.

I have been following along. The dream is getting one of the adapters for the 4 on the column from @red66toy. I still need to find a 3 on the column transmission top plate though.

my favorite kind of people!

Thanks I will get in touch with you guys when my attention turns more to my transmission build. Looking forward to rebuilding the transmission. It will be even better to swap the 3speed out for the 4!
I have a column shift top plate for you.

started pulling the transfercase off the 4speed because I waiting on parts and tools still for the engine. Unfortunately I will be waiting even longer as I think a winter storm is rolling through tonight and tomorrow and we are going to get 70mph gusts. The ferrys to the island will stop running at 25mph.

I got all the bolts out. but I did not get it separated. Seems like I need a puller. I saw you can pry it off too but the puller method seems cleaner.

This was one of the messiest things I have ever had to deal with haha. I am glad I drained the oil and WATER out... Seems like a good bit of water was hiding in the TCase. I am sure it got in when getting the engine back home. It rained almost all day while getting the engine home. I had the engine tarped but the TCase was showing. I drained everything down and sprayed it down with some oil. I think the onlything worse is doing a birf in terms of messiness. I dont think it hurt anything as it all looked good inside still. again I cleaned the mess out of it.

I should have grabbed more photos but I did not want to touch my phone with my grease gear oil hands.

Interesting that top bolt was missing. IDK if it needs to be there? anyways look at that chocolate milk soup on the gears.

I also got a series of photos developed. I shot these just before the holidays. Looks like some sort of barren desert. Its actually the south end of Ocracoke island in the winter. I took this with ilford delta 3200 and my rolleiflex 3.5f

Delta 3200 has such a nice and crunchysmooth grain structure. I love to shoot it with a 25a filter to get it even more so.

Looks like you used an orange or at least a yellow filter on this judging by the contrast?

Great shot!

Delta 3200 is so much more fun to use in a medium format camera. Yeah I have a yellow filter on the rollei. It was also slightly foggy that day too. Thanks! I have about 15 color rolls to send off soon so I know I will have some more fj40 pics to post haha.

The next two weeks look like blow after blow stacked up for us.

thanks!!

I know its not looking fun. I am in the process of ordering parts for this 2f engine and its going to get annoying with shipping. Only upside is most of the time the winter storms go off shore and make good surfing surf. But also its cold so full wetsuits boots and gloves and hood.

Even with it going off-shore most of these storms are generating surf that overloads most of our bars. There might be one or two places that work, but we are so over-crowded with people driving down from VB or up the beach that it's mostly not worth it for me. Maybe I should come down and camp in the troopy and see what it's like to surf in isolation again.

At least when the ferry is able to run again you will have a BIG pile of parts delivered!

Hopefully something that goes between the top plate and trans too…..

(Unless that’s the part you’re talking about)

I will need that part too haha. and I think there is one part that goes on the bell housing. I gotta look through all the column shift stuff I have to make sure I got it all.

Yeah if you want to paddle out with 0-5 people just come down this time of the year to surf. you can for sure stay at the camp ground.

thats true! I have a city racer order, a couple of tools coming and then I have my gasket kit from @Cruiser Corps then a few other do dads from around.

I think there's two bolts on the inside of the tcase that need to be removed. Looking at your internal tcase pic, it appears there is still one bolt holding it together.

Oh I know I should have said I didnt take any bolts out when I took the inspection cover off. I think sombody went in there and did not put one bolt back in the past haha. Luckily its not a bolt bouncing around in the TCase.

If you find yourself in Colorado, I’d love to have you photograph my 40. I’ve got a few things to do on it first, but I love how you‘re able to capture the beauty of these old trucks!
I might be in Colorado for a wedding in April! Ill let you know the details when I find out more.
