Shocks

We've got the lower shock mount located. Made a new bracket that holds the link bushings and incorporated a tab for the shock. All this stuff is only mockup. Once we've got it figured out, we're going to burn everything out of Chromoly and box it all it. Shock hoop coming soon....:)

Are you going to support the other side of the bolt for the bottom of the coilover shock???

Yes. We're going to make a new bracket for the panhard mount that has a tab for the other side of the shock/bolt. Should have it made this week and will post pics.....

Yes...having them back from wheel center a little should give us around 13" of travel....we should be able to articulate it later this week, but I need to put the body on for weight. I'll post some more pics soon. You have a beautifully inspiring wagon by the way:cheers:

Thanks! Any ideas what spring rates you are going to run? Are you doing a dual coil, with a slider and stop, or a simple single rate?

Thanks,
Ryan

Getting broken bolts out

I've got about a dozen broken bolts I need to extract. What have you guys found to be the best way. I hate this part. Comes with the territory though....:crybaby:
your $.02 would be appreciated and probably motivating........weekend:p

you can either drill them out OR go get one of those bolt extractors, they work fairly well. You drill a small hole, tap them in and then back the bolt out. It all depends on the threads in there. If they are rusted shut, you may just have to drill out and retap with a bigger size.

The best way is to get a drill bit that is just smaller than the bolt, Drill out he bolt then invest in a taping kit that is metric size and tap the hole and the job is done just takes some patience.
The next is find a chemical that eats rust and let that set over night but before applying the chemical cut a groove into the bolt if you or weld a cheap flathead screwdriver and remove. Just my $0.02
Hope this helps.
This just shows working on VW bug does help with something

Pat, what is the exact situation? If there is some stickout on the bolt, you can try heat, pb blaster and then wiggle it out slowly with some vice grips clamped on there. The key to this is the expansion / contraction of the metal to break it loose. I usually heat it up nice and then hit it with some pb blaster. I do that a few times and then try the vice grips.

If the bolt is flush with the metal, then try to use step by step from small to big bigger drill bits until you get the wall of the bolt so thin you can simply pry it out with a pic.

OR just drill away and retap to a bigger size.
