"Some is good, more is better, too much is just about right." Words to live by for my brothers and me.

how do those rods go on the crank shaft?

You take the rod bolts out, split the cap off the rod, insert the bearings, pre-lube (spit on that thang) carefully assemble the rod around the journal, re-install the rod bolts and torque to spec.

I know it doesn't look like there is a parting line, but it's there. You can see it just to the side of the notch for the bearing tang.

Re the NWF blackbox, earlier versions had an overheating challenge that I think they overcame some/most of that with the later boxes. To add more cooling, some folks have added an extra reservoir, pump and finned cooling loop. NWF says yes they run hot and recommends changing the oil whenever you do an engine oil change. I haven't got mine out on the road and where I live, temperatures are cooler so I haven't done additional cooling, but will monitor.

This is known to us and I have extensively played with and set up cooling for a BB setup before. Won't be an issue even with tons of highway driving. @MountNGoat ran his 1700 mile round trip almost dry the entire time and all it did was melt the nylon shift fork bushing. Really strong units.

That's reassuring!

What’s the plan for the old 2F?

my thoughts have generally been to package the entire frame/axles/2f/4speed with the 74 body off the OG Pua'a and sell someone an all-but-running project, but the body is in Houston with @samc2447 (and I've not even mentioned it to him yet) and the rest of it is in Westminster, CO.

And that was with the gen 1 box, with the gen 2 box there's quite a bit of extra room.
