Quick little job ended up at my house this week. Son is getting new siding and he wanted to rehab the vent in his hot tub room:

Naturally, this being a good 20+ years old, it's no longer available. But it was in pretty good condition all things considered.

It had some pretty bad rust on a couple of the internal/lower sections, so a quick trip through the blast cabinet removed the heaviest of it. It them went into the laundry tub with some Super Clean. The brownish color melted off it with only minor scrubbing. Looked like chocolate milk running down the drain. The previous owner of the house didn't prep the galvanize steel before painting. And I think he just put regular latex house paint on it. Which made my job a whole lot easier:

I applied some converter to the rusted areas, waited a day, then hit the bottom and a few other areas with cold galvanizing spray:

Not going to top coat the bottom, as it won't be seen, and it will need some silicone sealer on the flange area.

Blew a coat of Rustoleum Bonding primer on it (supposed to work well on galvanized metal), then after 30 minutes of drying in the sun, hit it with three coats of Rustoleum Dark Brown satin:

Should be good to go in another day or two after the paint cures a bit more.

Then on to the next 'project'...

Leaf blower had a dead variable speed switch
(🤫 for a while...)

So I (finally) swapped in a toggle...

Motto #3
Things come okay, but we can make them better....

Sourced a hand winch mount for the raft trailer, supposed to.come with a 600# winch, turned out to be a 900#, but the step is only 13'. 😩

So, to add the previously impulsed, budget Amazon 3200#er with 30' strap, I needed a larger mounting plate .....

To be continued. . . .

Added legs to a vintage library card file for a cool end table.

Who needs CAD, right?

(I used to teach a lot of AutoCAD, but still prefer to draw stuff out by hand)
Not sure how to make it therefore I like to see it full size in front of me.

Finally made something after years of hauling around a huge slab of wood from a 100+yr old warehouse that was torn down to build condos. Hopefully it’s obviously a K for our last name Kent. I kept the main shape of the pieces and used brass rods that came out of it to secure the pieces together. Then used linseed oil to seal it. The bottom pic is what’s left still

Do you have a peak in your roofline in front where you could mount it up under the gable eave?

Building a covered area for my pool chemicals fir my customers. With all the shortages in chemicals and parts, I’m having to stock up so I don’t go out of business.

Also adding bating to the attic floor in an area for storage above the garage. Decking will be next.

Do you also have to management runoff from a roofline so close to property line (I see gutters and downspouts in the background)?
I have jealous of moar attic insulation... well, ANY insulation up yonder ;) 🥵

Yeah I talked with the neighbor about the run off and he said he didn’t care. I plan to replace the fence next year. We just had the spray foam put in and night and day!!

Scored this beast (and some other treasures) @ ReStore a few weeks ago!

Done. I’ll probably make a few improvements, but it’ll keep everything reasonably dry as is.
