Why doesn't anyone (preferably Prinsu/CDI) just shorten the threaded standoff so the bolt head is recessed lower? im on the fence about ordering this rack but i hate the bolt interference issue. Its my favorite rack looks wise

If I fab up a batch of 192, would you buy a set? seems to be the ONLY weak point of the rack

I would suggest a spherical washer set under that nut - so the nut has even pressure, and the bolt shaft is not under bending load.

Anyone recently install an awning on Prinsu rack? What kind? How did you mount?
It wasn't recently but I have a Tepui awning mounted to mine. It's just a simple 6' awning, not a batwing or 270*. I used the aluminum L brackets that came with the awning. I actually drilled down through two of the crossbars and bolted the brackets on. Maybe a bit more intrusive than some would want but the 80/20 crossbars are not expensive if you wanted to replace them with new ones. Mine has been on the truck for 5-6 years and super solid.

Thought I’d share an important little tidbit that messed me up when installing my Prinsu rack. There’s really no clear instructions about which is the right rail, and left rail. Of course, I choose the wrong way!
I had it setup, where the base of the rails bent inwards instead of outwards. This made the footprint not want to sit in the gutters and was resting more on the curved part of the roof. After struggling to get the mounts all installed and seeing them barely clamping on to the edge of the gutters, I realized the error...took it back off, swapped sides, and do it all over again.
Here’s a picture showing how the bottom needs to bend outwards- which made everything mount up nicely!
I wish this was called out in the instructions. Would have saved me a lot of rework, and scratched roof!

Boy, I wish I had seen this post before trying to throw my new rack up there today. Once I figured out something was wrong (and scratched up my roof) I came looking for a thread. The first set of pics in this thread from 2015 showed me the error of my ways.

Does everyone just rest that bare metal in the drip rails? Anyone have any suggestions on something to put in there to protect the paint?

Lastly, my rack came with different feet than are shown in the instructions (and in the first set of pics in this thread from 2015). Anyone else have those? I'm hoping I didn't get the wrong ones. I'll follow this with a pic.

I put rubber edge guard on mine to protect the paint. Also CBI updated the mounting hardware for the 80s lately.

Maybe a stupid question, but where'd you get the rubber edge guard? What aisle at the hardware store am I looking for? Thanks...

Wha?! They finally updated the garbage mounting hardware?!

Anyone know if this fits existing racks?
Yes the new mounting brackets will fit older racks. My rack is the first 80 Series prototype rack and is slightly different from the production version and the new mounting brackets bolted up just perfectly.

The new brackets are definitely better than the old original ones. One note on the new brackets. The smaller L shaped piece is longer on one side than the other. The short side should be bolted to the rack rail so the longer side has the connecting bolts for the lower piece of the brackets.

I called Prinsu/CBI and they sent me a set of the new brackets under warranty. I really like the updated design, when I get around to working on the 80 again I will re-install the rack. Great customer service and it only took a few days to get here.

I’m gonna call them tomorrow and see if I can get the new set too

I called them up and they told me to submit a warranty claim online. I just got confirmation that they shipped today. I bought the rack 2 years ago.

BZ Prinsu! You just earned a customer for life.
