And new! Cue Love Boat theme...Exciting!
yep! that is about the only place they leak.Yesterday I pulled my FJ62 around to the back of my house and it starting leaking coolant badly. Remember, it has a 5.3 Vortec. I looked underneath and it appeared to be coming from the water pump. This afternoon I pulled it around and pressurized the system to make sure it was not a hose and no leaking hose was discovered. But after running it for a while, no leak at all materialized. When it was leaking yesterday, it was leaking furiously. Thoughts? Water pump?
Interesting recipe for rust treatment and prevention:
Mix and spray:
- 4 oz blaster brand penetrator
- 12 oz auto trans fluid
- 1 oz dawn soap
Thanks, @Stumpalama Always good to have another pair of eyes on something like this. I’ll plan to stick with fluid film.I'd love to see the follow-on video that shows the treated areas vs. non-treated areas after a few time periods with rain etc...
Not to be contrarian, but to be contrarian:
I can say with authority that ATF and PB Blaster do not just "wash off with a pressure washer". It requires a degreaser... like Dawn? Uh oh...
Dawn is designed to encapsulate oil and grease, so while it may reduce the surface tension and allow the ATF to spray better, but it won't make the ATF/PB blaster stick better, especially after it rains and dissolves the Dawn.
ATF is essentially mineral oil with additives specifically for use in automatic transmissions.
This seems like another "internet miracle solution that isn't.
"Then there is this: The Environmental Working Group gave Dawn a 'D' grade because of it containing methylisothiazolinone, which is a "High Concern: acute aquatic toxicity; Some Concern: skin irritation/allergies/damage". ... Sounds delightful, right? Dawn also contains 1 4-dioxane which is considered a groundwater contaminant. "
Or for frames, Woolwax is a good product for protection, though it is not an inhibitor. Ospho is the way to go.Thanks, @Stumpalama Always good to have another pair of eyes on something like this. I’ll plan to stick with fluid film.

Good info here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...Vaw29qumgknVbE5phy-ZskrbM&cshid=1617733830464I’ve had good luck treating rust with ospho.
Has any tried Corroseal though? It looks like it might be easier to apply since it’s thicker and won’t run/drip off.
What's the plan Matt?
Get it back running again and enjoy it. It was once a fun truck to drive.@mwalls54 is that varnish I see in that steel tank? Good times.
