I would suggest setting up a Dropbox account to share the information. You could scan (or photograph them with a smartphone) your notes and post them to the Dropbox account. Just a thought. I am interested in working on this also.

At least the €uropeans got them plain vanilla. Both my 2000 and 2004 are w/o navi. Still hate the user interface for hvac on the 2004 tho... oughta be illegal.

There's no such thing as a CDN spec 100. We never got them, only the LX470 with the display centre.

Kind of off topic but some of the illumination on my rotary dial controls has gone out, has anyone taken theirs apart to replace a bulb and do you know what bulbs it would take?

GRunner did that style swap. The radio is the easy deal. It's the climate controls that are hard.

It would be great. But yeah, the damn climate controls. Especially mine being on the touchscreen! It's the only thing that I do not like about this truck. I don't understand why engineers think its a good idea to integrate the climate system with the navigation touch screen. It seems actual hard buttons would be easier.

Sort of off topic but I just bought a 2008 Lexus ES 350 with touchscreen NAV, Backup Camera Climate and Radio. At least there are some push buttons for the climate control to put it in Auto Climate mode as well as to adjust the temperature just in case the touchscreen ever goes out. I sure hope it all lasts for as long as I own the car because it will be outrageously expensive fix. Boy am I glad my '99 LC doesn't have any of the touchscreen stuff.

I just picked up a very well maintained 2002 w/ NAV and am completely happy with it except for this issue. So there is no other way for me to get non-NAV? I've read through this thread and it seems like there is no possible way with people that no way more than I do about this sort of thing. What if I came upon a non NAV 100 being parted out, is there no amount of parts and wiring pulling that could make this happen? I mean its not like you have to swap engines and transmissions to make it work, right?

If you can source the parts it can be done. One of the major things you will need is the harness that plugs into the main harness for the dash for the non-nav version. It will require pulling the whole dash. You will need other parts inside the dash including brackets and other items but you could theoretically recoup some of your money by selling the nav screen, DVD drive and other misc parts. I think the 01-02 would be easier because there are a lot more non-nav equipped vehicles out there.

Thats the spirit. I know there's a way. Might not be cheap or quick and easy but there's got to be a way.

FWIW: A few years ago I was bent on upping to an '03 or '04 LC. I had hoped Toyota utilized, as they often do, the same dash wiring harness for nav and non-nav optioned vehicles presumably complete with the appropriate harness/loom connectors. This would have made the conversion from a nav option rig to non-nav merely plug and play with the appropriate center console pieces; and around a grand or so for all the OEM center dash pieces.

But for whatever reason Toyota opted for two separate dash wiring harnesses/looms for the nav and non-nav equipped models.

At that time, 2010, I had Onur (beno) and CDan check prices for all the components to swap to the '03+ LC nav option equipped model to the factory non-nav model. The dash wiring harness/loom was ~$1400+...and the remainder of the components including console trim pieces, etc. brought the total to over $2200. To the best of our knowledge the conversion seemed doable...but I was up to my neck in other projects on my rig and lost 'the will' for yet another potentially expensive experiment in futility

But the above pieces just convert an '03+ from the nav option to the non-nav option...and doesn't get the dials from '98-'99.

Spresso conveyed it well. I started and ended a project o do this with existing harnesses too cumbersome.

2000-2500 ind you could be 95% there. One part that is not orderable is the eyebrow temp display... you'd have to source through other means.

The plus side is that if you have a working MFD you could sell that to cover the costs.

Thanks guys. So this would be possible for a 2002 as well? I know the 03 had a bit different setup. Honestly it will probably be worth it to me to pay upwards of $1500-2000 after factoring in recoupment from selling current nav, drive, etc.
Now we need to work on a parts list. If I get around to calling beno or cdan I'll report back but this will probably be a project with timeframe of about a year in mind for me so not rushing.
