I ended up spending this weekend painting the FJ55. I went back to the stock colors; Cygnus White and Nebula Green. I don't think I have seen many FJ55s or FJ40s these colors. If you have a Cygnus White, Nebula Green truck please post up some pictures. I think that it turned out pretty sweet for a home paint job, I will try to have some photos up tonight.

Pictures

Here are the photos I have at work. I know it is hard to tell from these small pictures but it turned out pretty good. I didn't cover the bottom since I am going to Line-x that and the floor. Lets see some photos of the other Nebula green trucks.

Simply beautiful. Nice work!

Thanks! You wouldn't believe it but my wife and I prepped and painted it this weekend. We used toyota paint in spray cans. I felt like a real hack spray painting the truck but it really turned out well. When I bought the truck it was solid white, and I knew I wanted 2 tone. It was a toss-up between blue and white and green and white, but because there were so many blue and white cruisers and that this truck was originally green and white pushed me over the edge. At first I was unsure of the green color, because when I sprayed it, it was very light. After it dried it darkened and ended up as nice as I could ask.

Nice!!! I am going to paint my FJ55 soon, if it ever stops raining here. What kind of prep did you do? How long did it take? How hard was the glass to remove?

Nat,

The glass was tough. I am not a glass or body man, I used a knife and cut out the old WS because I knew I was going to replace it. Once I had cut the outside of the WS it was just a matter of carefully pushing the glass out from the inside. The headliner was scary to take out. I am still worried that I won't be able to get the new one back in place. Good luck with the 55 lets see some pictures when you get started.

PS I am still waiting to see pictures of everyones Nebula Green 55's

Wow, man I really dig the way that thing looks! Did you fab those sliders yourself or are they the Iron Pig ones?

Keep up the good work

They aren't the ironpigoffroad.com sliders, they are just 2"X4" 1/4" steel capped with a 2" step. The Ironpig sliders are very nice curved 3/16" steel that follow the lines of the pig better, more like a reproduction. I wanted the extra ground clearance of the 2"X4" plus I wanted to chop the rear rockers to match and Lance doesn't have a heavy duty reproduction for the rear.

I have to make sure I give Lance, Jon, and Ryan at Ironpigoffroad a huge thanks for all the work they have done. I was going to have the truck painted professionally but that fell through and Lance stepped up and let me paint it in his shop. These guys really are looking out for the customers. I get great feadback from them and in the end I think it will make the project that much better.

I was going to repaint mine the original light blue, but seeing that green..........sure does look sweet.

I only had tatters of my old headliner in, so removing it was not a big deal, but I agree, putting the new one back in will be fun

What sort of prep did you do? Did you take it down to bare metal? Any rust prep? What kind of primer?

My truck was in pretty good shape. I had Ironpig replace the rust with new metal then I sanded the old paint smooth with a DA sander and 80/120 grit sandpaper. I wiped everything down with MEK and primered it with heavy duty automotive primer. 3 light coats of primer and then 5-6 coats of green and white. I am not a painter and I didn't really research this much so please don't think that this is the "right" way to do it. I just thought that it would be the best way for me.

Did I read that correctly??? You did that paint job with SPRAY CANS??? Take some closeup shops. You are providing inspiration big time. I love the color combo!
